It was time to get a new bed. Our box spring and matteress has had it so I went shopping in a really nice furniture store wanting something really good. I"m a savvy shopper and I do like certain name brands and I was so excited that we were going to be able to get a decent night's sleep in the comfort of a new bed. Sweet dreams atlast.

We had a queen size bed but I figured that we could just get along just fine in a full size bed for a change and that would keep us from having to squeeze ourselves in our tiny bedroom. It made sense to get a smaller bed, so I went for it. Jerry told me to be sure to get a firm mattress for his bad back so I did.

Had a blast laying around all these beds in the store, but how much can you really test out a bed in public? Not much without too much embarrassment. So after a little testing I made what I thought was a good decision.

BIG MISTAKE! HUGE MISTAKE!

After it got delivered we were in for quite a surprise on the first night. The full size was only supposed to be 2 -3 " shorter than a queen......... but heck, if we stretch out our feet are hanging out and flop down over the end!!!!!!!!! So here we are all curled up in the fetal position and every time we stretch out, the covers at the end get undone.

The mattess is so hard that after one week of this, we both wake up soooooooo sore and stiff that it ain't funny.

Well actually it's quite a comedy now going to bed.

We just don't wannna!!!!!!!! We sit there and stare at eachother like "you going to bed now?" and we both giggle and roll our eyes ...........more like "are we going to the torture chamber now?" hehe

So here's me trying to get the boy's to trade beds with us.

They both tried out our new bed and said "no way"..........

Oh well, live and learn.

Marty, you might want to consider a feather bed. I have a nice thick one on top of my pillow top and I LOVE it. I have trouble sleeping in regular hotel beds and want to being along my feather bed, but it's too big!

If you had a feather bed it would cushion you somewhat but you would also benefit from the softness.

I buy mine at www.qvc.com. Everyone in the house has one-- even my son at college.

I recommend one that has squares-- or divisions-- like a quilt. It will keep the feathers where they belong instead of all ending up at the foot of the bed or something.

I think this will solve your problem.

Poor Marty! That really stinks.

Personally I have a pillow top mattress. Its a twin, although its really nice. Its not too soft, not too firm... for me that is. Perhaps you could get some sort of a fluffier cover for it?

YOU COULD TRY GETTING ONE OF THOSE EGG SHELL FOAM MATTRESSES AND PUT ON IT. OR HAVE YOU THOUGHT OF CALLING THE STORE. SOME MATTRESSES HAVE A GUARANTEE THAT YOU'LL LIKE IT, MAYBE YOU COULD EXCHANGE FOR ONE A LITTLE SOFTER IF IT HAS A GUARANTEE. HEY MARTY, I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL, WE DECIDED THE NEXT TIME OUR WATER BED SPRUNG A LEAK IT WAS THE LAST TIME. WE STILL HAVEN'T BOUGHT A REGULAR BED AND MATTRESS. WE HAVE BEEN BUYING THE BLOW UP ONES AND PUTTING THEM IN THE WATER BED FRAME. IT TAKES TWO, SOMETIMES WE HAVE BLOWOUTS, THE SEAMS GIVE WAY AND WE GET A BIG HUMP THEN WE HAVE TO GO BUY A NEW ONE. BUT HECK $37 ON SALE ISN'T THAT BAD.

Sandy S. has some good suggestions.......it would be great if the store has some sort of guarrantee, but if not, try the foam mattress pad idea.

For years we slept on a king sized water bed (the type that were water tubes under a foam pad) and we were happy. We could adjust the firmness according to the amount of water in the tubes. After 15+ years, the tubes started breaking down and there were only so many patches we could put on them!

After squawking at Larry for about a year, he gave in and we invested in a temprapedic (sp) clone mattress that we got through Overstock.com. We kept out original box spring from the waterbed and the foam mattress just lays on top and is designed to conform to our bodies. It only cost a few hundred delivered! And we love it.

In other words......there are other options. Don't be cheap on a good night's sleep!!!!

Marty,

We got a King Size, from a Double and boy what a job we had getting the mattress upstairs.

Thank goodness the box spring is in two pieces now.

So when we are in bed, we have to yell to talk to each other, so far away.

Here we are both sleeping near the sides and the dogs just love it, all stretched out.

Yes, I agree with the others, see about a exchange.

Hope it works out for you.

Ugh, there's nothing worse than the wrong mattress.

Our Sleep Number bed has been worth every penny. I'm a 95, Darrin is a 20. Our Jack Russell prefers the 95 and the ChiRat likes the 20. Everyone is happy. Except maybe the Golden sleeping on the floor. You can try them for a month for free, and they have a good guarantee/warranty.

Yeah, Marty, this is grievous, you not being able to be comfortable in your bed.

My own bed is my sanctuary, MY daily vacation. I have a wonderful King size mattress in a natural Ponderosa pine frame...*sigh*...how pretty, but it feels great w/1000-thread count cotton sheets and no less than 6 fluffy down pillows (I loves me my pillows esp. when sleeping alone, makes me feel more secure). I just love to crawl into my bed and take a few minutes' respite (rarely get the luxury of a nap these days), but at night, it's imperative to get some good sleep.

I don't know that you can go on that way not sleeping right. I love your description of you and your poor hubby's hesitations to go to bed, though.

Hope you can figure things out and get a better bed so you can get the rest and sleep you both deserve. After all, you spend about a third of your life in bed!

(I mean sleeping, ya know!)

I would check into a return policy now, while it's still new.

I would think you could take it back unless it was on sale. I sure would try.

I have a waterbed now that I keep pretty firm.

Next bed I get will be the sleep number. Even if i have to sleep on the floor to save up for it.

My brother has the temperpedic (sp?) top for his regular mattress. When my mother and I went to visit him we shared his bed and he took the sofa. My back was killing me with that thing, which isn't a real surprise but it was also hard on my mother.

:bgrin l have no idea how anyone can sleep on a double with the feet sticking out the bottom and jabs in the back when you least expect them. Love a king but a queen is fine. How about bunk beds if your short on space.

The feather bed is a good idea - you can also get "pillow top" mattress covers - between the two of those you can get quite comfy - that is what we did with our two FIRM mattresses. You can get both of these items from JC Penneys website and they aren't too expensive. Cheaper than another mattress!

Some places around here let you TRY the mattress for 30 or 60 days - returnable if you don't like it.

We have a new mattress on order (ordered new bed and mattress) - sure hoping we like it - its a Closed Cell FOAM mattress - it felt firm in the store with a little give to it.
