Last year I had my first mammogram. Wasn't so bad, everything was fine. I just had my yearly done last week, well it came back suspicous, and I have to go back at the end of the month (This is going to be a long month) and have some new scans and a sonogram. I am a little nervous about this. Has anyone been through this and have everything come back fine? I guess six years as a scrub nurse has left me paranoid.

My two mini girls left today for their new home, the doctor calls me to tell me all this and then my son falls and splits his head open. This day is being chalked up as a loss, I allow myself 5 of those a year, just hate to use one so early in the year.

Please don't let these be breast cancer!!

Barb

oh barb i hope your years brighter by the day, ill say a prayer for you,and i hope everything going to be alright.......

Couple of years ago I had a suspicious test result. The later test was fine. No need to worry until you know for sure.

i bet its nothing but they are being very careful which is a great thing!! im sending good thoughts your way

little funny story. i had my first one done early as my mother had breast cancer. The report came back and said "due to very dense breast tissue it is recommended that the patient be tested every year"

Read this aloud to my hubby and my son who was young at the time said "mom your breasts are stupid?"

true story!!

My stupid breasts fell down and they can't get up

Barb, I'm sorry you have to wait a whole month of worry before you can find out. Hang in there hon! I'll be sending prayers your way!

I had a friend have this happen..here is what she did......layed off the caffiene and took lots of vitamin c when she went back they were gone......fingers crossed over here.

About four years ago I found a lump. A good sized lump too. Had a mamogram and the test agreed, yup, that there's a lump!!! So, they decided it would be best for me to have a biopsy. Talk about scared! OMG!! :new_shocked: I asked them to talk me through the whole thing before we started and it was seriously no big deal at all. I still do have a little hard to see mark where teh needle went in, but everything was fine. My doctor says I just have lumpy breasts! Just what you all wanted to know about me right? LOL

Luckly im 17,

Should i worry? Or is this only common for when your older?

I always wonder?

Also when should you get it done?

I'm also only 17, i don't know much about this stuff. still, i hope there is nothing wrong with you.

My very first mammogram came back as "suspicious" too and they did a second almost immediately. It showed everything was fine.

Leeana, Unless things have changed recently, doctors usually want you to have your first mammogram done when you turn 30.

Every time I have my annual exam, I ask my doctor if she thinks I should have my first mammogram. I'm 48. She doesn't think it's necessary for me until I'm 50, based on my history and knowing that I do a monthly self-exam, but I'm not comfortable with that anymore. I think I'll ask her to book me in for one next time I go, and hope like heck that they don't find anything wrong!

I don't blame you for being nervous and having to wait until the end of the month. I'm quite sure I'd be a wreck!

Doctor said it is recommended to start at 35 years old but many have one earlier if there is breast cancer close up in the family. We have it rampant in our family but my insurance company (been with them for 15 years!) wouldn't cover it any earlier for me so what did I do?...Told them to stick it and paid for it myself! Hmmpf! :nono:

Nope cant say I have. I just switched docs today, and heck she was already lectureing me today about how im 21 and have never had a pap done. I dont intend to either.......she knows that but is still pushing me to get in and get one done.

wow i have never heard of waiting untiil your 50! id get a new doctor.

Ashley please have the pap test done. Its very fast and painless. I was diagnosed with precancer that showed up in a pap smear at 25. My sister in law was diagnosed at 20! because they were found so early it wasnt a big deal and both of us had the freezing surgery to get rid of it.

Sunny- It seems to be a common train of thought with our Dr. around here- I have asked and I know of two of my girlfeinds have asked all with different Dr.- we all were told not until your 50 unless something is out of place.

bcody- My thought are with you- hopefully the month will go quickly.

Ok, this subject is really close to my heart. When I was 17 I found a lump in the 12:00 positon on my left breast. Went to the Dr and he found another one at 3:00 on my right breast and one in my armpit right also. Saw a surgeon and 7/5/1973 I went for surgery. Had the 2 removed and it turned out NOT to be cancer but very suspicious. Breast cancer runs in my family mom's side. Every year I have gone for the tests, mamo and sono each time, several times they have found more and have removed them.

The last time they did find some precancer cells in one and suspicious in the other. Radiation treatments were done then. 3 yrs ago I went in Mammo, wow, a lump, what a surprise, let's do a sonogram of it, yup a lump, let's do a needle biopsy, ok.....10days later it was nothing. The new DR says I have amazing breasts, but not in a good way. They are full of fibroids and make it most difficult to diagnose.

I am really bad cuz I have not gone back in 2 yrs. I will this spring but with the herniate discs the thought of having the breast squeezed flat while I try to crook my neck was not an option. SO...bottom line I am sorry for the epic novel here BUT ask for a sonogram. It is so much better to show the density of the mass. Better yet get the needle biopsy done now. It is done very simply, you are numb. I see no need to wait 30 days. I will wonder at what point in you "cycle" you had this done. They usually prefer to do it post menstral by 7-10 days.

You have all my prayers and support. A very good friend of mine just went through breast cancer surgery, a lumpectomy and radiation. She's tired and discouraged but a tuff lady and I hope to have her around for many years to come.

Remember a lump is not always cancer. I have had so many lumps. Feel free to PM me if I can help in anyway. Be aggressive with your DR. The last time for me, when they did the mamo, they wanted to wait to schedule the sono and I said NO NOW, then after that they said go home, I said NO WAY I'll wait, then they wanted to schedule the needle biopsy and I insisted NOW is the only time and though it took all day and lots of tears and waiting I was so glad I did it my way.

Best wishes

You others....have you scheduled your 2006 mammo yet? Remember I was only 17. It is said that with more young women smoking, drinking, having sex and taking birth control breast anomalies increase big time. Be safe not sorry.

Thank you guys for making me feel better. Kay, you made me laugh, kids say the funniest things! They said they would let m eknow if there were any cancelations and could get me in sooner. They are going to do more x rays and a sonogram, so I guess that is a good thing.

I would get another doctor if they said wait until your 50, thats crazy! And Ashley, after spending 16 years in the medical field, the last 6 in the operating room I would strongly suggest reconsidering. Nobody likes tohave a pap done, but it has saved MANY lives, and a lot of young people do have things show up.

Thanks again everyone, now I wait until the 30th for the tests and a few days after that for the results.

Hey Barb, How's the rest of your life going?

I'm over 50 and never had one done and don't plan on it. I'm such a weenie.

I know that a lot of them come back as suspicious for various reasons so don't think the worse and borrow trouble. Take it one step at a time.

But you gotta go do something about that boy of yours. OUCH! How about a football helmut, or just tie him up to the couch till he's 21?

Who's the one with the lumpy ****ies? :aktion033: :aktion033:

Ashley, I think you should bite the bullet and get one done. The same thing happened to me as Kay, They found some pre-cancer cells and I was 23 years old. They took care of those cells with "Chryo" (which is a method of freezing) and I went back to having normal pap smears from then on. It's important to have them done.
