Yesterday, my brother in law and I tore down the old horse barn. The old barn was about 20 years old and when we built it we were using a pasture that we can no longer use. Over the years of not being used except for a bunch of junk that got piled in there, the roof had started leaking and nobody noticed.

We will be able to use some of the lumber from it for the new barn but some of it is ruined.

There were a lot of memories in that old barn, The bent board that my old pinto mare used to scratch on, The cracked gate that my quarter horse gelding leaned over with all of his weight because he didn't want to walk around it even though it was open at the time. The scrapes from the feeders being scooted along the wall, the board stall divider the kids used to sit on and watch the horses eat.

It was sad to see it go but where it was located, we couldn't use it anymore.

The new barn got the bottom of the dutch doors on the north end put on yesterday and my brother in law took the materials with him to build the top 1/2 this week so we can hang them next weekend.

The support poles from the old barn will be used for the last 4 stalls of the new barn.

If we ever get the new barn finished I will have the first fully enclosed strictly horse barn that I have ever had. I have always either had a run in type or had to share with the tractors or one of my dad's antique cars.

We fully intended to stop with 6 stalls but are going to go ahead and add 4 more because that wouldn't give us but 1 extra stall. We are going to finish the outside then I can do the inside without help.

It is sure slow going with only having 1 day a week when I can work on it. As soon as we get it enclosed, I start on fencing so I can bring my mares home. That is the whole purpose, so I can have all of my horses where I can see them daily.

It would be hard to tear down old memories,...but,...also,...exciting at the same time to be building towards new ones.
