I have been getting a number of emails asking about Lumy`s breeding. First, I have said she is NOT registered. Her parents where but her sire was gelded and put out right away with a bunch of mares and thus Lumy was born!

I have dug up her purchase agreement. I bought Lumy and her momma "Midnite" Sept. 2001. Lumi was born July 20th. Her dam was sold "without papers" as he didn`t want her producing anymore foals as they where "evil tempered things", as well she was 19 years old. Okay, Midnite was very snorty but once broke to harness she could fly! I sold her in 2003. For being un broke for all her life I found her enjoyable to harness..she just needed a job clip clopping along. It does state on the bill of sale that she was 75% Arenosa. So, I am guessing that is a type of shetland or welsh line? The sire, "Carlos" came up from the US in utero. Very cute, 32" buckskin-pinto, but he had an attitude and that is why he was gelded. ( I think he, like Midnite just needed to have a job).

I did not like Midnite`s head at all, it wasn`t dished like an Arabian but it sure looked like she had been been hit in the head... ( no that isn`t what would of caused it). Lumy isn`t as bad but when both Jake ( the mule from the 29" jack) and Mini-me was born, they both had that head. Both grew out of it.

Is the Arenosa a dwalf form of europen pony? Is being arinosa something I should warn people about if it causes problems even though I am doing out crossing with her?

Sorry, I looked and it looks like my webperson has only a few pix of Luminata on the website. If I could I would forward pix, taken today of Lumi ( and mini-me) to this form.

Naw, the Arenosa line is from a farm owned by Audrey Barrett (Shetlands). She is now deceased though the horses from the ones she had at her farm are very sought after for their correctness, etc.

Now as you might realize not 100% of stock coming from a farm or line are perfect examples of what they want and I have learned from past research and stories that Ms. Barrett was herself a very ruthless culler as in she took the ones that were not as perfect as she could get them and sold them for other use than her own stock for breeding/show, etc. (I am not 100% on all this just what I've heard/read)

What you have today are people breeding for 100% Arenosa, etc. and even 25% Arenosa but again not ALL of these are perfect. Ms. Barrett is not here to cull away the ones she would not have chosen for her breeding program though the horses retain their "Arenosa" status even if they might not have been what she would have striven for. Even so, it is a very desirable line and so I would not think it necessary to warn anyone about anything, it just so happens that Ms. Midnite was probably not the best example of her breed/lines, etc. or something else could have happened.

The "dish" or "dent" you were seeing is likely the way many minis' heads are conformed at birth but they usually grow past it and end up with pretty heads when they are done growing though again this is not always true.

Miniatures themselves are a notoriously "iffy" background of horse as it has been rumored that everything from small Arabians to "tiny drafts" etc. were used to downsize when in reality it was usually Shetlands used, the smallest examples of these were double registered and their Shetland identities were hidden as they were claimed to be a "miniature Arabian, etc." when in fact it might well have been a small Welsh that was the sire. I wouldn't worry yourself over Mindite's true parentage but be glad you have a nice baby that looks to grow into a nice pony one day. It will likely not be a problem as far as any other babies as long as you consider the things about Midnite that you don't like and make sure the prospective sire has none of that.

You probably already knew that though!
