Live and learn...even at my age.

We were given an Old tractor and all the extras. Having had to sell my truck two years ago..was going to be a bit of a problem getting it here.

Could of had hubby rent a truck and large flat bed trailer. However he dented himself crashing is motorcycle. Sigh ~~

So I called up a Transfer company.. told them where the tractor was..where it was going to, they told me all the fees,,told me it would cost no more than $495.00 since it was within Oregon.

So it gets here today.. and they want $917.23. Needless to say I wasn't happy about that at all. They never once told me it would cost more if they got stuck in traffic...even when I asked.

Needless to say,, I have learned my lesson,, don't trust the word of Transfer companies. I just too old fashioned,, spit and a hand shake kind of person.

Just glad I have a little food in the house,, because I now don't have any money for anything for a bit. Ah Well....

Looking at the good side,, at least we now have a Tractor,, which has been badly needed since we moved here..and it is much..much cheaper than even buying a used one of the same model. Needs some work... but that is ok.

Youch...my dad paid $950 to ship a car from PA (near Philadelphia) to Longview, WA, last Christmas.

We have a friend w/a rolloff towtruck/carrier truck and he charged us less than $100 to tow a wrecked truck from Seaside, OR to our house (about 50 miles or so).

Not sure of the distance you had to ship the tractor, but that amount does seem steep to me and I'm sorry they did not honor their quote. That seems to be a crappy business tactic.

Was just from Dallas oregon to Rainier oregon.

Sure will not use them again, nor will they get any good reviews from me.

They just did the bait and switch,, and I did not see it coming.

If I had any idea at all it would cost this much we would of just rented the Truck and flat bed trailer ourselves.... would of found someone to help us out. Would of cost a whole lot less.

Hard lesson that is for sure.

I'm afraid they would have got to keep the tractor had it been me, or honoured the original quote- their choice. Since the Tractor stood you nothing you would have lost nothing.

Sorry you had the hassle, though.

THat was really a high transport cost. This past summer, we bought another very large tractor, and had it shipped from Indiana to upper Wisconsin. My daughter is manager of a trucking firm, so she set the transport up with one of there drivers. We offered to pay for all the extra permits that were needed because it was oversized for the semi, we know this was done more as a favor to us, but we only paid $450.00 with the permits, and that was to bring it from 2 states away. Did you have the quote in writing? I dont think I would of paid it, after all a quote is a quote! I am so sorry that they did this too you, but there are so many "businesses out there that just dont care how a customer gets treated now a days. Can you report them to the BBB?? Corinne

I got this exact same thing shipping my new show cart up here last month! My boyfriend shipped his SUV from WA to Georgia a month sooner for $700, but they wanted to charge me that much to ship a 100lb item from CA to WA. After quoting me $268. I was LIVID.

I'm normally Mrs. Nice Guy but after getting the runaround for two weeks I finally turned into the customer from H-E-double-hocky-sticks and put my foot down.

It took me three hours on the phone but I got the cart for $339.99. (And the rest of it was a legitimate shipping class error which I had half-way expected and didn't mind.)

It just ticked me off though. I'd heard all the horror stories on here and thought I'd asked all the right questions, checked all the possibilities, covered my butt, etc. But NOOOOO....somehow my 92lb. shipping weight cart was marked as being 250lbs which more than doubles the cost.

Plus "residential pickup fees" (it was shipped from a Comcast location) and "residential dropoff fees" (I was supposed to pick it up at their warehouse), etc. etc. Grr!

I learned you should ALWAYS get a quote number, they are required to honor it if you do. Any additional fees must be disclosed in the contract. Fight them on every darn thing. I had to print out the expected shipping weight off the manufacturer's website and fax it to them, then lay out every possible thing that could be in that box and how much it might weigh to prove that 250lbs was way out of line. At least I had the quote number. If I hadn't, I'm not sure they would even have talked to me. Oh, and check that it's the right quote number. Mine wasn't! So they were going to try and tell me that since I didn't have a valid quote number they couldn't honor it...riiiigggghhhtt. I'd triple checked it using "So that was Fred, Romeo, Alpha, Tango, 7, 7, 0, 4" kind of language. I don't think I misheard it! Had to do a bunch of detective work on my end to find the date I had called them so we could find the right quote.

Sorry, stopping now. I just get mad even thinking about it, so I totally know where you're coming from. Sorry this bit you!
