Thanks Valerie. I hope Larry gets to eating real soon. I don't know how long I'm suppose to hold out on him with this wet food. Guess a call into the vet is in order again today. Didn't eat but just a nibble yesterday. However the litter box pee spot looks ok...not normal put-out but better than it was.

You and Larry have been in my thoughts since the start. I keep checking the thread for updates. I wish he would eat better. Will he try tuna or cottage cheese or something? If the vet says it's ok?

Aww thanks Robin. Well hubby did get him to eat about a tablespoon of wet food last night. He had to sit with him and finger feed him...and he did eat for him. Surprisingly he won't eat tuna, chicken, turkey or anything that looks yummy. (I know, I don't get it either). He's getting wise to the medications too. He's putting up a big fuss, especially with the spasm pill. Them kitty teeth are sharp! Pee-pee out-put is still not normal...but it's something. Vet's office told me that it may take a while to get him back to normal, especially if he's being a picky eater.

I have had a couple of males block up many years ago, but recovered with vet's help with no further problems, and I also lost a couple over the many years from this as well. I too was told it was related to diet and that cat foods with high ash content contribute to this. (keep in mind this was probably 30 years ago) I was told too that if they are not drinking enough water as well, this may contribute too - and having your kitty on IV's for fluids is keeping him hydrated and hopefully the excess water will help him flush his bladder of the crystals. It will also keep his kidneys and everything else functioning.

Poor guy, I just HATE this problem. I changed cat foods years ago and no longer feed Purina or some of the 'store brands' and have never had another problem.

Wishing the very best recovery for your kitty, and if you do surgery, hopefully that will resolve the problem! Sounds like a reasonably good success rate.

Thanks for the update - we are all sending Larry good thoughts! I wish he liked tuna - that sure would be nice! Have you tried baby food? I'm sending you guys good thoughts!

Wow....so glad you posted, I have been thinking about you guys a lot........ it's tough to find things picky eaters will eat.

Will Larry maybe eat babyfood?.......I have never tried it, but maybe?...... I know my two cats seem to like different things....

Gosh, I hope it keeps going better....I just wish I had some better advice.....so hard when they have to have a "special" diet.....esp when you just want them to "eat something" because you know they are not in their normal routine.

Gosh, I didn't read Liz' post until I already posted this.....glad I was thinking along the same lines as someone else for once... haha

Laurie, Liz and Valerie...thank you so much for your concern of our little Larry. I've got good news tonight. He is actually starting to eat more. Guess hubby had to jump start him last night with finger feeding. He's not eating his normal sized rations yet, but I'll take anything for right now. I am still cautious however at the fact that he's still doesn't have a normal pee unit outcome, but we're keeping tabs on him.

Laurie, this time around he's not on sub-q fluids. Two years ago when he was diagnosed with kidney disease he was...but was taken off of it after a few weeks. His numbers were down and the vet was surprised. It was almost like we were questioning whether he indeed have kidney disease or an infection going on...the antibiotic kicked out whatever was happening inside him. Numbers back to normal. This time Doc didn't need to do x-rays he knew right from the start that he was blocked and so that's when he went in for the week to try to get the blockage down and get him peeing again. Swelling and enlarged tummy is down, thank goodness.
