Worked as a superintendent at our local County Fair today. Long day! Not many entries in the flowers/vegetables/jams/crops. We've had a horrific summer with the weather here. However, I won SWEEPSTAKES with my pumpkin pie! I think the secret was I used goat's milk instead of evaporated milk.

Anyone else working with the county fairs?

Congrats Marsha!

Way to go Marsha!!!!

Our county fair started today as well with all our non-animal entries like crafts, veggies, and baked goods.

Tomorrow the real fun starts with our rabbit, guinea pig, poultry show; farmhand olympics, and the sheep/swine show.

I am operating the petting zoo.

Going to take a mini, a goat, a potbelly pig, baby rabbits, and baby chicks.

This is my first year as a Fair Board Member and so far it has been so fun.

Hooray for you Marsha! I hope you win! You are the best pumpkin pie maker ever!

For many years I have helped out at our local fair. Our fair is held in early Aug. I go down days ahead to help clean and "pretty" things up. Than I help run the food booth that your local 4H clubs take shifts at (our fair is 4 days). This year I took on laying out the 4H exhibit hall and making sure each exhibit was tagged. I also help work in the office of the open horse show and I work behind the scenes at the 4H horse show. I took the week off this year from my full time job to be at the fair for the whole time, oh was I glad when Sunday came and the last show was over...walked into the midway to find some GOOD fair food

Congrats, Marsha! I always envy people who find the time to get entries into the fair! I have always wanted to do it, but time just slips away!

Care to share a slice of that pie with us?

How did your Fair go, Julie? The petting zoo is lots of work! I've helped with it, but never been in charge. Whew!

Tell us more about your duties/responsibilities as a Fair Board Member.

The members of the fair board are responsible for making all the decisions regarding the fair. From venue, awards, schedules, advertising, etc. We meet once a month and discuss and vote on what needs to be done. We all are also responsible for meeting the week before the fair and getting everything set up, we were there from 8 am till 10-11 pm every night of the fair. And all worked during that time. It was EXHAUSTING! But so much fun too.

The petting zoo was a huge hit! I had kids in it nonstop. I had to give the animals breaks from all the kids once in a while. LOL From 9 am till 11am on Friday morning I had over 460 kids come through.
