He's just beautiful Corinne! I met one at work 2 days ago that looked just like him! And he was just as sweet as pie! Good luck with KA J!!!

He's pretty! Growing up a friend of mine had a chocolate standard. Such a nice dog! When they had puppies some lady flew in with her chauffeur with a purple silk pillow to carry the pup out on!!!

Thanks everyone. He is just being a little charmer!

Very cute dog, pretty color. My aunt has a poodle, she has such a sweet temperment.

Not to push the subject, but I have to agree with what mininik has been trying to explain to you. I believe in AKC registered dogs. I only buy dogs from showing breeders as I find them to be the closest to the breed standard. As well thats what showing homes are suspose to be doing. Breeding for the standard. I believe in bettering the breeds. Most breeders who breed these "tea cups, and king size dogs" loose sight of what the dog should look like. They breed dogs just to be larger, not to match the breed standard. Sure they look like poodles, but they don't compare to the standards. Also your speaking of a reputable breeder, i'm sorry but reputable breeders generally don't sell breeding dogs/puppies. They are required to be sold on a limited registration where you the owner can choose to leave your dog intact, but the puppies will never be able to be registered if the dog is ever bred. So if this was the case with your breeder, then I think they are far from reputable. They are not helping the breed by allowing people to breed their dogs, they are faulting the breed as they are allowing people to breed dogs. We all know people do this, its especially worse with pet store dogs. The terms tea cup and king are just ways to attract people, to make it seem like these dogs are something when in reality they are under sized or over sized dogs just being bred. I honestly have no problem with people owning these sizes of dogs, but I don't agree with people going out there to find them or for people to repeatedly breed them. I own and would consider my min pin to be a tea cup. But she wasn't bred to be. She was in a show home, shown by the president of the miniature pinscher club of america to be exact, but she just never met the height requirement. She is tiny in size and frame. So she was spayed and brought back to the breeders to be rehomed.

I have no issues with you wanting to own a "king" poodle, I think its exciteing you want to open your homes and heart to another one. Just don't get sucked up into the word. Really do your research, check the quality of the dogs and make sure they are tested. Ask to see the tests. Make sure there are gurantees on them. Just be smart in your purchase, don't buy the dog for the term, but becuase you truley want one of its size. As well be careful of people who call them self reputable. In this day an age, everyone is a "reputable breeder." As I feel, unless they are looking to better the breed, they are not reputable, they are just a breeder!

Good luck with your pup. Hope to see more pictures in the future.

Lilmiracles, MY DOG IS AKC. I have MANY top breeder friends in variety of AKC breeds. We are not new to this, and know what to look for and watch out for. I also have been going to shows for years, as a spectator, and behind the scenes..helping to groom, walk etc.I do agree with everything you said, in todays world its very hard to trust anyone that calls themselves a breeder. You really need to know the person very well and feel confident with them, also asking for names and address of past buyers can be a big help when selecting a new dogs. I also take the extra step and contact there vet, explaining to them, I am calling as a perspective buyer and would like to know everything and see records, (this you can usually get with the sellers permission). Most reputable breeders are more then happy to give you any of this inf. if not..BEWARE. I also visit the premises, and ask tons of questions, also checking to make sure it is clean..another big plus! It is especially helpful, if you can find a reputable breeder close by (which I did) you have the BIGGEST plus, of knowing of there reputation way ahead of time (in my case about 20 years ahead!!
default_laugh.png
) you will be able to see the place, without actually visiting to check for pups, just to know if it is neat or messy(again, in this case I had been there hundreds of times, years before KaJ was born
default_laugh.png
)Thank you for your concern. Have you ever been to a AKC show? If you ever have the chance, watch the standard poodle class, and you will see for yourself ..how some of the standards are built more massive and stand taller (but within the AKC standard of perfection) THESE are the dogs I am referring to. I NEVER said one word about anyone selling them as ROYAL POODLES, it is only a term. I also think it is up to a individual, if they want to breed the largest of the large, or the smallest of the small.. as long as they know what they are doing and are not hurting the breed standard.

When we bred danes, AKC and bred to perfection. We owned one male that was huge, he was perfect in every aspect of the breed standards. 39"s and 230"s, we also had another male, 38"s and 160"s, see the differance??...our huge Sam, was of a German Import, and resembled what most people thought of when they thought of a dane (this was 25 years ago, and I am sure everything has changed in the dane world, by now) at that time alot of breeders were breeding for the dane height but a much more slender built, they acheived it, and alot of those dogs were top dogs in the show ring. Those dogs became known as CALIFORNIA Danes, ...again, JUST A WORD used to describe the type, all those dogs were breed to AKC standards, no one I knew of sold them as California Danes, just AKC Great Danes.. but the word "California" told the perspective buyer the type of built these danes could possible have. Same hold true with alot of animals..including horses. IT IS JUST A WORD!

THANK YOU to EVERYONE who has emailed me in regards to comments made, on this thread. YES YES YES, some do like to ruffle feathers, and not have a clue.

I hope everyone of you continue to post including pics of your furbabies, and dont let any of the negativity that seems to be found alot on the forums lately bother you, or keep you from posting pictures. the ones that like to "ruffle feathers" only want to draw attention to thenselves. Its kind of sad, if you do read there threads/posts you will see they do it over and over.. Just remember the good members far outweigh the "feather ruffleres"... so enjoy the forum, PLEASE dont leave us, alot of you have ben here a long time, sit back and just enjoy the entertainment from the rufflers. Its good cheap entertainment! Heck, I even forwarded this particular thread on to alot of friends. They got a good kick out of it too, Sit back and enjoy "the revolving world of using words"

Needed to say this: I usually just go and check out the ones that have so much to say, if they have one, like to see their web site and you might just be surprised.

Reble, You sure can have some shocking surprises hey?? But, on a forum it is SO easy to say something, but hide behind "other" things. Awwww....to be young again, and so full of knowledge...

Mary, I have had similar responses to my posts about my dogs and puppies. There are even some people who would rather swallow their tongues or chew off their hands than post anything positive about my dogs..you can tell by the few responses I get.. because I am a breeder. That automatically lumps me in the disreputable group because I chose to selectively breed AKC reg Champion stock... just the fact that I have litters bugs the heck out of people. Also people ten to pick a phrase and pick it to death.. I am at dog shows at least twice a month.... I see big standard poodles and some smaller. Any thing over 15 inches is considered a standard if I am not mistaken. They come in all sizes, as do dachshunds. Minis are 11 pounds and less *doxies. and standards dont start till 16 pounds.... what about those really nice 11-15 inchers??? we show them in American bred rather than mini or standard... so what. I dare anyone to come here and say I am nit a reputable breeder or condem me for breeding. My dogs live better than most people and in the house with us. I know how these ugly posts feel, Take them with a grain of salt, post your pretty puppies and , Corrine IF you want to breed your dog, then do it. Carefully and selectively. Every litter I breed has a puppy in it I plan to keep, sometimes two. Like with my horses, I breed for myself first. maybe there will be a left over for someone else to love.

There are not alot of quality standard poodles out there .... make GOOD ones for those who are looking.

Lyn

Thanks Lyn, I do love everyone of my puppies.

I have been doing this for about 18 years now. No complaints from my buyers and some have come back not twice but 3 or more times. My vet recommends people to me.

I breed (Shih Tzu and Shih Poo) 3 females and 1 male in my stock and of course used to breed mini dachshunds, Page who is going on 9 years old (great nannie), and do not breed any of my females after 5 or 6 years old.

Just sad that sometimes the gift we have for something cannot always be shared :love

Thank you so much Lynn. I hope to meet you at a show someday! If I do ever do breed poodles..I would plan on doing the same we did with our Shepherds and Great Danes...just doing the best we can possible do and hope for as respectable breeders. We never once had to offer pups for sale, we always had a waiting list, (including selling danes to a few Green Bay Packers and there families) well in advance, gave a money back guarantee if you found anything wrong with the pups (all were vet/tested checked prior) plus offered a money back guarantee for the first year of the dogs life ..if for whatever reason you just didnt like the dog. We never once had a single complaint on any of them. We also had many repeat customers. Most of whom we stay in touch with today, and that was MANY years ago. Its really a shame people cant just come to this forum and share pictures of whatever or whoever without all the backlash. I LOVE looking at all puppy pictures..I woudnt care if it was the worlds ugliest dog..in my eyes that dog would be beautiful. I guess thats the differance in us who truly care about our animals..and we tell the world we love them, and others who like to just ruffle feathers. Remember the saying..You cant tell kids anything??.....
default_wink.png
hmmm...... Lynne and Mary, do you think it could be jelousy, that maybe the ones talking negative are really just backyard breeders?? In it only for the almighty dollar ..not caring about quality or quanity?? Think about it...
default_wink.png
yes, Lyn..If I ever do breed poodles..I would try to breed for the best I possible could. That should always be the number one concern of any breeder.

I for one learned a great deal on this thread. My female standard poodle was much smaller in height and bone structure than the standards that I knew as a youngster. It was really sort of funny when I talked of getting one the farmers around here just laughed. Well I was the one that laughed last as she melted everyone of their hearts. She was so smart and she would woo and coo and the next thing you knew they were holding her on their laps. She was the only female dog in a house of 5 male dogs and she sure kept them in line. I miss her very much and will have another one when I find the one I am looking for. We have a neighbor that raised field dogs for many years and he said her only problem was that she was smarter than her owners and that was the truth.
