Hi Everyone :saludando:

I have a mare that was due on the 14th and while I sit here and let her drive me crazy with (false alarms)on the foaling monitor, I thought I'd ask everyone what has been their latest date past 340 days to have a foal arrive?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I had a mare carry for 363 days last year. Good luck with your mare, hopefully she won't hold out too much longer

Very many sleepless nights and thats what they are, for Jodi, totally sleepless We do mare stare in rotation here she prefers nights her Dad takes evenings and early morning from 5:00am to 7:00 am and I do from 7:00am to roughtly 11:00 pm and Jodi does 11:00 to 5 am. We have not missed a birth in 4 years and we dont have equipage though I wish we did we do it all with cameras. They go under camera at 300 days or earlier if signs say they should so yes that mare drove us crazy and she was so big we wanted to put a pin in her and watch her fly around the barn. Not only that but we know for a fact the number of days was right because we hand bred her.

Not me personally - but I know of a mare that went 13 months - with positive KNOWN last date bred. Foal had teeth when it was born - all else was ok.

We had a mare go 365 days several years ago, it was her first. This same mare this year she has changed her tune and after seeing another baby born tried to throw herself into early labor at only 282 days :new_shocked: We have her on regumate and so far so good, she is at 295 days :aktion033: I hope she hangs in there just a little longer, every day puts us closer to being out of the woods. She did have 1 other foal in between these two and she had her at around 320 days if I remember correctly. Definately can not go by her prior foaling history

I wanted to add that her dates are very accurate, all three times she was hand bred. The first time to an outside stallion, and the next two here at our house and both times we bred her twice within two days of each other at each time and that was it.

372 days to get Howie here. And his mother was only bred ONCE!

349 here and that was last year! The same mare looks like she might do it again. 300 days today and not a sign of a bag anywhere!

382 days. Drove me nuts. The she went and had the filly while I was at work.

I foaled a friend's mare out one year and she went 364 days with her 2nd foal. Personally, mine have all been in the 320 range as an average, the earlies being 309 and the longest 341.

I can really feel your pain as I just went through the same thing, the mare went to 363 days, I could not beleive it! it was a happy healthy little boy!

Our record was 372 very long days for a hand bred mare, who went 345 the first time. Another mare, her first foal was exactly 365..the second foal 300..every since then she's been an every other year mare, foaling at 11 months +/- 3 days. She's due this year and right on schedule

I noticed alot of us said the overdue foal turned out to be a boy..I wonder..things that make you go HMMMMmmmm

WoW, Sounds like some of you have had some REALLY long sleepless nights

I too have heard that the overdue foals a lot of times are boys.... At this point I'd just be happy to get this foal on the ground...lol

Thanks for all your replies, it helps to know that there are others out there that have waited alot longer so I don't need to panic yet. :new_shocked: My mares have normally been between 320 - 340 days so this one has thrown me off abit.

As long as it's healthy I can deal with a few more sleepless nights.. (I did just say a FEW more didn't I ? )

I win this "contest" every time. 401 days. exact breeding dates (and that's 401 days from the LAST breeding date and she was only bred on one heat cycle.

She foaled a perfectly healthy filly.

My mare is at 349 days today and although she is doing fine, I am not a happy camper.

I have one also due this thursday and she looks like it will be on time. So praying if she goes the late mare will go too!!

My mother-in-law's mare went 369 days last year - she had given up on her! As the mare wasn't overly big (an on and off laminitis mare), she thought maybe the wee thing had "got away".

But one morning I got a hysterical phone call to say that there was a foal standing in the paddock, all wobbly and hairy! :bgrin And we counted back to when we last bred her (to my stallion, so I had all the dates), and we couldn't believe it!! But 369 days it was, so a very well cooked baby! :bgrin

ETA They will foal when they are good and ready, not before

Appy Hollow has a 370+ day mare now. She took the mare to the vet school and they found the baby in foaling position and the mare starting to dialate slightly--that was three days ago!! Only bred one cycle and confirmed in foal according to the owner. Wow!!
