I would take Kay up on her offer. It is a very generous one and she is willing to help. You would like her Leanna! I am sure if you pm'd her your phone number she would talk to you and you could see how nice she is.

How is your filly doing this morning?

Fran

Leanna- Sorry but you have earned the right to be flamed. This forum is filled with knowledgable horse people with experience who have graciously given help and advice and listened to your tales of woe. You are in way over your head and are closed minded and resentful when advised to get help by knowledgable trainers. I have read what others have told you and pm'd you personally with no response. Quite frankly, we are losing patience and getting angry at the abuse inflicted on your horses.

im pretty upset also and i have been biting my tongue.  Marty you know i have offerred at least 3 times to come visit her and help her with her horses (minis) and everytime she refuses.  I also offerred to take that mini stallion that she could not handle and i believe was sold back to the auction
sad.gif
I AM NOT AN EXPERT but i do know how to handle minis properly etc.  If someone offerred to come to my farm and help me i would absolutely take them up on it because i always learn something new.
I honestly have to wonder how much is true and how much is made up.  So many of these posts just dont add up.

Anyway my offer still stands or she is welcome to come to my farm anytime and see how we do things here.

Kay

Have to wonder and boy this is mean sounding and I am sorry ahead of time.. how much of this is reality

I know as a horse crazy kid i dreamed about fantasized about having my own horses my own farm, training the wild pony no one else could handle , getting the horse that everyone wanted i mean what horse crazy kid doesnt

I really am not meaning to hurt anyones feelings and please dont take it that way if i am wrong so be it.. just have to say what I know many are thinking

Cudos EVERYONE for finally saying what we all are feeling. We have had horse girls growup right here among us....Jenn, Stacy, Feather, Jessica.....they all learned from us and continue to learn. NONE of them have had daily or shall I say weekly crisis regarding their horses like this. IF it is true then that is truely outrageous that a family of "horse people" act this way. New young horses every week from deplorable situations. Trying to find Mom a horse she could ride....for how long a couple weeks before that one went to auction.... this filly came from a "farm" with many youngsters in pens..... Leeana, you dont know enough yet to train 5 month olds large or small and large paint 5 month olds are more powerful than you are and WILL get hurt. Comon sense tells you not to tie even a seasoned horse to a wall hung hay feeder! Come on now..... and this statement blows my mind totally....you just have to understand the no trainer thing here. That is just plain REDICULOUS!!!!! When you know nothing you find someone reliable that does. I used to live in Ohio.... I know there are reputable trainers both arab and sletland there you have to spend a little money tho to get good ones. PLEASE DONT BUY ANOTHER HORSE!!!! You need to know what you are doing first. A horse traider isnt a horse trainer . Open wounds like that need to drain, that horse should have had those scrapes hosed off no matter how cold it is. Hair growth stuff????? you will be lucky if her leg doesnt rot off without treatment if the wounds are open . Dont worry about her blasted hair for crying out loud! I just tool care of an open shoulder wound on Lucky .....25 staples and 30 stitches.... you dont cover that you spray it with anticeptic, put him on antibiotics and hope for the best that it drains well and heals from the inside out. That filly is now traumatized from this experience. It will take a lot to retrain her ....holding her in your lap and kissing her isnt going to do it!

Don't feel bad ab out it, Lisa. I'm not saying this is or isn't the case here, but I've been online for some 7 years or more, and spent alot of time haunting various horse boards, chats, etc...

I've seen a whole smattering of people- not just teens, either- who told wild stories, outright lies, etc ... and it always ended up with them being called out by the "natives". Alot of times they'd get flamed, flame back, and leave... or they'd just dissapear when they were called out. It's not a pretty picture, and I still don't understand why it happens.

And it's not just horses they lie about. I've seen sick/dead pets, sick/dead family members, all kinds of injuries, and all kinds of abuse. One case even claimed she was pregnant, and passed around someone else's ultrasound images
wacko.gif

I also would suggest not wrapping the legs, they'll heal, keep the swelling out, keep them clean, and keep some kind of ointment on them. I know I keep speaking on Leenas behalf, but I have been around friends who were in situations that I deem to be similar. Just picture this, her Dad trades horses, she really wants to learn and train, she mentions trainer Dad throws a fit and says it's a waste of money because he knows alot about horses. Of course she has alot of faith in her Dad because he's her Dad, so she listens to what he says. Plus he's Dad and if you're living under his roof you do better staying on his good side. She mentions someone coming to the farm to help, same results. If you have read her posts about horse slaughter this is her way of trying to help with that. Maybe it isn't perfect, but she is trying guys, she's taking in the rejects no one else wants. Come on now,I believe that she is sincere and is really trying to learn, but the situation isn't ideal. Who wants to discredit everything their Mom and Dad tell them for some folks she's never met. I think she really wants the advise, but is maybe too scared of what her parents will do to confront them with the information she has received on here. I've seen this many times and IMO she is caught between a rock and a hard place. She comes here looking for support more than advise because she gets plenty of advise and no support at home. And here we sit on our soapbox running her into the ground when what she really needs is a shoulder to cry on and someone to lift her up. Leena, if anything I said is wrong about you or your family I'm very sorry, but that's what I read into your posts. If you ever want to talk feel free to PM me, or PM me your # and we can talk on the phone.

Leanna, if Kay offered to come over here and show me a few of her ideas and ways of doing things, I'd be honored and thrilled and she would be more than welcome. She has offered to spend her time with you and her gas money to burn on you and you said no??????No one knows it all and certainly not your daddy from what you have told us. Meaning no outright disrespect but I do believe he is overloaded with a lot of misinformation and you seem to be the only one in your family that is bothering to atleast make an effort to educate yourself. I do hope you will open up your mind and have enough common sense to welcome Kay Kay to your place.

I just want to make it clear, since it wasn't in my previous post- I wasn't saying Leanna was lying or weaving fantasies, or anything of the sort. I was merely telling Lisa that it does happen (and quite often, sadly).

I'm not picking a side here- I don't know a whit about this whole thing, except for the fact that a horse may be injured.

I have just one small question. If Kay has offered to come and that isnt accepted....why? Is dad so against having a mini person come and help just because he doesnt want help or.....is there some thing not 100% kosher. I would love to have Kay come and help me.... I would say come on Kay it is wawmer here in the south but today that isnt true! is was 25 degrees this morning in Richmond!

I didnt even know she offered ...and if she did i wouldnt have said no. But do you really think my dad or mom would let me go to someone elses house who is a complete stranger and stay there all day. My dad works all the time and mom isnt really home ...i cannot follow directions to anyones place and having someone i dont really know come here would be a bit frowned on by my parents.

I never said the filly hurt her stomach or pulled a muscle

..its just scrapes from what the vet said today ..nothing dangerous

....She didnt pull any muscles

......she is just scared and scraped up the inside of her legs.

He gave us this spray to spray on it and he said that since its not bleeding or oozing that we dont need to be wrapping it. So were not, i wasnt going to either after you guys said so.

Now, in defense of myself. VooDoo got it right on!!!. My dad doesnt 'TRADE' horses ....we get a horse we keep it, well i do. If he gets a horse ...he might sell it after a couple years or something to get something new. He is NOT a horse trader. He is a Thoroughbred Racing Trainer. Then my sister's horse comes up ....and im geting blaimed for her mistake and her not knowing anything about horses. I did allot of research before i got Coco! I knew my stuff. No, i dont have tommarow horses!

1)Coco ...mini

2)Rocky (WHO WAS NOT SOLD ..I HAD PICTURES OF HIM ON HERE A FROM A COUPLE WEEKS AGO ...PLANNING ON POSTING MORE WHEN I GET MORE BATTERIES) -mini

3)Striker- mini stud

4)Joey- shetland

5)Sammy (who is now calmed because i talked to Gibson on the phone and he gave me some tips on training him) -arab

6)Lexus -filly

I have 6 ....there are many people here who have about 10x that many and have only been into horses a couple years. I know there are so many people here who have more knowlege about mini's and horses then me.

And then you guys accuse me of not taking people's advice ...? Why would i post on here if i didnt want advice ...just to blow it off? I take everyones advice ..just sometimes you guys dont completely get the situation so i try to explaine it more in depth to help you understand and im all of a suddent 'being rude and thick headed!'

Yes, we have a very nice and safe barn here ...stuff happens. Stuff happens in million dollar racing stables. Horses are unpredictable sometimes ..and stuff happens! Dont act like you guys have never had a accident with a horse, because if you are going to sit there and act like you have a right to say all this stuff to someone and most of it isnt all the nice to hear ...i probaly wont take the advice

Some of you guys here are just so BITTER and angry all the time ...relax. I know a couple of you who just need to be a bit more friendly and then someone might take the advice.

NO, we have never had any 'animal police' out here to check us out. We treat our horses better then most people ...stuff happens like all over the world. Some of you guys, yeah sorry you guys are not perfect either ..just see a horse for its bloodline! If its got one thing wrong with it .....its not a good horse. I think its horriable that some of you would take a $25,000 show horse over a friend in need mini! That makes me sick personally.

Oh yes and you guys ...thanks for all your worry. If this happened to someone else, you guys would have left 'god bless ...were sorry ...and hugs'. Nope, not here ..i get complaints and horriable words. What about when your guys horses get attacked by dogs (hmmm ..thats happened here before to someone ...didnt get this kind of response).

I just had to stick up for myself ..i think some of you guys here just need to relax and get off my back a little.

Leeana

if i came by as rude to some of you guys ..marty, voodoo ..and all you guys i was not aiming that to you guys. You guys are all understanding and just wonderful with great attitudes.

please dont get upset. but i did offer several times to come to your farm and help you with that first mini stud you got that you were having trouble with. Im sure you can look up the old posts and see that. Both times you said you didnt need help. You dont have to come to my farm i can come there
smile.gif
I would love to meet you all and give you any tips i know. its very hard to give trainign advice on here as its very hard to explain in type. but if you have someone right there watching you and your horse together, it makes it sooo much easier.

Again i am not an expert but i have had a lot of great people help me along the way like lisa davis, the entire grabow family, etc etc. The help they gave me on how to handle and train horses has been invaluable to me. So if i can pass some of that along i am more then happy to!!

And for sure i think that EVERY single horse has value!!! show horse or not they are all valued and they all have their place.

Anyway my offer still stands. Would love to come to your farm and visit and just give you a few ideas on handling and training minis etc. You can ask people that have met me, im a pretty nice person and i have endless patientce
smile.gif
If you want to chat on the phone just pm your phone number and ill give you a call.

Kay

I'm sorry Leanna but you obviously do not understand what a horse trader is. A horse trader is someone who buys and sells horses, exactly as your father does, usually at auction, exactly as your father does. You do NOT keep horses for life- your father has allowed you to keep a few "ponies" that he does not think are worth anything. that is all. If he thought he could get anything for them they would be gone. (OK, OK, I know I am being brutal, this girl is seventeen years old, she needs a bit of truth in her life) You have obviously never been around anyone who knows how to look after a horse, only trade it. If you are genuine in your desire to learn you need to be looking for a job in a big stables- somewhere like Spruce Meadows, so you can learn the basics of horse care. Do not, please, come back and snipe at me- I knew better than to tie a horse to a hay rack when I was six years old, and I did not grow up with horses, did not learn to ride until I was nine, but I could read books!!!

i'm sorry to here this and wish i could help, i know not much for i am only 12

Wow. You think that we are like that?

I would NEVER ever buy a horse just because of its bloodlines. Frankly you have never seen my horse. Yeah, he has some nice bloodlines, but he is nothing special to look at. The ONLY reason I LOVE and CARE for him, is because he is loving, trusting, and tries his hardest for me. I will never sell him either, unless I can no longer care for his needs (Which he will go to a home that I know he will be loved and cared for.) He also has conformational problems. Yeah, I know that darn well! But does that stop me from loving him? Not in a million years.

Honestly? I think what would really help you, is if you sold some of your horses. You seem to have alot of problems, and cutting down would help.. Alot.. 6 horses is alot. Most of my friends who have a horse, have one or two. 6 horses is alot to handle for a kid! Ecspecially since alot of them NEED that one on one time for a while each and everyday. They all need to be loved for, and need attention. Now, I am not saying you don't love youre horses, but I think with all of them, you have bitten off more than you can chew.

i love my horses more then you can imagine. They are going nowhere and selling horses is wrong unless you have a HUGE reason to. There not going anywhere and they get more attention then anyones horses i know. Walks Daily ...Feed ...treats ...training ...showing ...hugs&kisses ...drives ...ext.

When i said that i was talking about some people that all they talk about is bloodlines and show points. There are a couple on this forum (none of which posted on her by the way) and tryed to get that point across. I spend 1 hour in the morning (on weekdays because of school) down there and then from 3pm-6pm after school down there. On weekends/days off i am down there almost all day exept when i come in the house to take a break and get on the internet. They are all well carried for.

I seen a trainer at our fair over the summer (and a well known trainer around these parts) tie a horse to a fence and it jumped up and broke its nose bone (dont know the right word). a professional trainer did something like that ..and i did something no where towards that bad.

I'm currently rethinking some stuff in my life because im just sick and tired of some stuff that has happened lately. But i can tell you my horses are going nowhere ....just because dad might sell a horse from time to time (which if he sells a horse about every other year that would make some of you guys horse traders by the way as well and normally when he sells them its to my aunt down in Kentucky who has a light horse farm *no drafts which is why we couldnt sell our fresian to her*). I have emotional bonds with coco, rocky, joey, striker, lexus and sammy ...part of why i dont sell my horses and also the whole horse slaughter fear.

Im going to take the time to PM some people on here that i've offended and talk with them for a while ...im making a couple changes.

Leeana

To reiterate a point. You have bitten off WAY more than you can even think about handling at this point. Either you need to sell a few or only mess with one, get it settled and move on to the next. In training for ground manners in a young horse, its a daily thing, usually 45 minutes to an hour, start to finish. Per horse. You have more problems than you can safely manage and YOU DO NOT NEED ANY MORE HORSES untill you get a handle on the ones you own now.

You have bought and sold a few, werent there a couple of barrel horses, plus another QH and that Dressage trained Fresian? I would first deal with the basics w/Sammy and the paint, since they will grow up fast. Then move on from there. Dont really understand why you would want to deal w/babies when you are already having problems with the basics, but, thats how it can be for newbies and I SO understand since they are so danged cute LOL

Also if this is something i plan to major in i have to do this myself ...
Yes, BUT, you arent there yet so you need help NOW. Kids planning on going to med school arent allowed to work on patients untill AFTER the classes LOL not before.
rolleyes.gif
Get that help from Kay, you cant safely do this on your own hon. Not yet.

Leeana, You say here that your father isnt a horse traider yet in your pm to me you said "he looks at a horse and all he sees are $$$$$. What does that mean? You cant major in something you have no knowledge of. You will have plenty of time after college majoring in Equine studies to train young horses. Just having lots of them and teaching them to lead is not training young horses.

Please try to hear what people are telling you. You say you want to make changes. I think what you sent me you need to say here for others to hear as well.
