Ok, I can fully admit this... I AM SCARED... ok, so more like terrified.

For those of you who don't know, I tore my ACL in a tennis injury back in March, and tomorrow aka the 30th of May, I am going in for surgery. I have been talking with my friend Levi and he has pretty much filled me in on whats going to happen, but I am still scared as all heck.

Please keep me in your prayers.

Also if anyone else has had an ACL repairment done, please tell what you went though.

Ok look settle down. I've had lots of surgerys these past few years and there isn't anything to be scared of. Once you are there, it will go by fast. The nurses are going to be taking very good care of you. Don't be shy about asking them for anything you want to know, or anything you need. They will come in to knock you out with a great big hammer to the skull, (ok joking) and probably tell you to count backwards from 10. You won't make it past 9. You'll wake up in the recovery room and you will be closely monitered so don't worry, they will be right there. You won't ever be alone. Your mouth may be dry and it may be hard to talk for a few minutes waking up before you get your bearings. That's the drugs wearing off. They'll probably be calling you by your name and saying "time to wake up now" .......and you will open your eyes and they'll take your blood pressure etc. I'll bet you won't feel any or much pain because they will have you on pain meds or will be ready to get you some. If you are in pain, say so. Don't be a hero and try to endure. Take the medicine offered. Then the worst is over and you will begin to heal up and be all good again.

You might want to consider wearing a little dress instead of shorts or jeans because that will be so much easier to go home in than having to manuever your leg right away. Last but not least, do obey your doctor's orders to the letter so you can mend properly again. No heroics, no pushing yourself or forcing yourself to do things that you shouldn't. You don't want any set backs.

Will be with you in spirit and on the prayer list for Wednesday night.

We'll be there Jamie, don't worry, you will be fine.

jaimie my daughter had this done a few years ago. she had the surgery where they remove a tendon from the lower leg and transplant it into the knee to replace the acl. they gave us a cooler with a wrap to put around her knee. this continually runs cold water over the knee after surgery. its really important to do it just like they tell you. this will really reduce the swelling and pain and get you back on your feet quicker. good luck!

Good Luck with your surgery! Hopefully you'll be as good as new afterwards. Just be sure to not overdo things! Take your time in letting your body heal.

Best wishes to you for a fast surgery and a speedy recovery. Take a deep breath...you'll be just fine! :bgrin

HEEEEEEEYYYYYY

I didn't know you played tennis!!!!! I coached for 25 years and still play in tournaments.

Anyway, had a few players over the years have this done, and they all came through just great!

Wishing you the best!

I tore my ACL and MCL when my horse kicked me. They took the tendon from my thigh. It is a weird feeling because you can feel it missing. The cooler mentioned above it a life SAVER. I feel like I lived with that thing one 24/7. Don't be afraid to take your pain meds. Take them when your told not when you think you need it. My Dr would "yell" at me because I would try and tuff it out thent he meds would have to "work over time" to catch up getting ride of all that pain. On the other hand don't wimp out and be afraid to start working those muscles again. The insisions are small except for one. Physical Therepy is going to be your best friend and don't forget to wear that "wonderful" brace. It gets annoying but if you take a bad step and tear it again surgury isn't going to as successful. Good luck!!! If you have an exercise bike or can barrow one they are GREAT!!! after 3 years I still use it. Your knee will never be the same but it is worth it. If you have any questions just ask and I will try and help.

I've had ACL reconstruction Jaime. I wanted to stay awake and watch but the epidural didn't take and I had to go completely out.

: I've had 2 different procedures on my left knee. The first time they only did an orthoscopic repair. I had a chunk torn on my meniscus and they went in and cleaned it up. Nothing big. The second one, I tore the ligament completely. They drilled a hole through the end of my femur and inserted a "bolt". They then took a piece of my hamstring tendon, stapled it to my tibia in the front of my knee, went up and wrapped it around the "bolt" and then came back down and stapled again. I went through 6 weeks of therapy (parts of it isn't much fun!) but can pretty much do anything I want without thinking about it. They should put you on a machine that moves your leg for you. USE IT! It is wonderful!!! I was scared to try it thinking it was going to hurt but it doesn't. It actually feels good. It helps keep the muscle working without actually using your own power.

After surgery, they had me up and walked out on crutches that day. Within a week I was down to 1 crutch and then in another week no crutches.

The surgery has improved so much over the years. I have 3 tiny Xs and a 1" line for scars.

Good luck. You'll do FINE! We'll be thinking of you.

KEEP TELLING YOURSELF THINGS WILL BE FINE. I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE FEELING, I AM FEELING IT RIGHT NOW ALSO, JUNE 26TH I GO FOR A TOTAL RIGHT KNEE REPLACEMENT. I KEEP TELLING MYSELF IT WILL BE OK AND NOT TO CHICKEN OUT. OF COURSE MY KNEE KEEPS REMINDING ME OF WHY I AM HAVING IT DONE.

THINGS WILL BE FINE. :new_shocked: JUST THE THINKING ABOUT IT DRIVES YOU CRAZY WITH WORRY.

Jamie i think everything will go fine,

Please dont worry!

You'll do great!

The closest thing i've ever done to this was when i Dislocated my Ankle and tore some of the muscle in my ankle and they had to replace it. What took the longest was getting the strenght back in it during Physical Therapy.

Good Luck

Ohhhh, Jamie!

Of course you'll be in our (David, son, and my) prayers.

You take care, Miss Jamie, and keep us posted on your progress. Remember, we're just a few keystrokes away!

Hugs to you,
