Boo sleeps in the stall with one of my mares at night and she stepped on him and broke his back leg.

Boo now has his back leg in a cast and is facing 6 weeks of being a house cat. He hates being in the house but he doesn't have a choice.

The vet originally told me that he would have to amputate the leg or put Boo down since he was a barn cat. When I told him I would do whatever I needed to, he decided that if I would keep him in the house for the duration of his recuperation, he would cast it.

Poor Boo, he is having to learn to navigate with a cast that goes from his hip to his toes. He also had to be introduced to a litter box.

He is doing pretty well but he really wants to be outside. He is so sweet and loving and even put up with me giving him a sponge bath (he really stunk).

He is locked in the bathroom until he figures out the litter box. He has his bed close to his food and water and has figured out that he can prop himself on the edge of the bed to eat and drink without having to stand.

We are in hopes that the leg will heal and won't have to be amputated.

Please say a prayer for our Boo boy.

I hope Boo will heal as well and quickly as possible. You're a very good pet owner to be doing this for him!

Poor Boo! Hoping for a speedy recovery! He may just come to love the inside world and not want to go back to the barn

Poor little Boo. I bet he hates being cooped up indoors w/a big clunky thingie on his leg. I'm sure your mare will be wondering where her pal is too. I hope he mends well and fast.

Get well soon Boo!!

Poor Boo! Hoping he heals quickly and well.

I agree by the way, he may learn to love the indoors! We had a family of feral kitties in the house after we got them fixed and they went in six weeks from desperate to get out the door and mewing piteously to ensconced on the beds and looking at you like you were nuts if you offered to let them out.

Poor Boo......hope he heals up fast.............and I bet your mare is wondering where her barn buddy is....... he is traumatized, not only living indoors but has a cast on his leg, I would be a little grouchy and unsettled myself...haha.

Here is hoping that he perks up in no time and you just may be surprised that he decides he likes the indoor living.

I think it's just great that you are such a caring owner you gave him a chance, by doing the cast and not putting him to sleep..... he sounds like a great cat!

Oh no! Poor baby

I once had a cat (my beloved) that got out and someone shot her in the leg with a beebee gun! She had screws in her lil leg and a cast for a long while. But she healed just fine.

{{{hugs}}} to your Boo kitty!

Poor baby. I had a Barn Guard Dog that got shot and had to be in the garage while he healed. I know how tough it can be for them.

Poor kitty, barn life can be tough sometimes.

Ours have had their share of trauma at times too, from being stepped on to getting run over by the golf cart - all of which they survived - to the coyote run ins which some did not survive.

He may indeed come to like being an indoor kitty, my two newest ones are still inside at night and they have gotten much slower to come out in the morning now that it's cold lol.

Awww Mary, so sorry to hear about Boo. Hope his leg heals well and he'll be back to his "old self" soon! Best wishes.

We had a cat many years ago that came home with two broken legs . Since he crawled home my husband had him fixed.and declawed and Motley became a house cat. When we moved out to the country 18 years ago he know longer wanted to stay inside. The vet in the area said to let him go in and out and he lived on the farm for 10 years but was 15 years old when he died. I hope you cat makes a speedy recovery.
