Any info on how you trained your Minis to set up will be very helpful-even if it is just pictures of your wolly mini setting up in the field with you. I dont care if it is a show picture.-I am going to an over night show with my new gelding YAY and I want the old owner to be proud of me-along with my mom. I kno show season IS FAR AWAY! but I want my babies to look perfect and have a chance to go agianst a lot of the other horses that go to that show that are very nice.

I think it really depends on the horse. Everyone does different methods and different poses to accent their horses conformation. Just in my honest opinion.

I know I have a mare with a slightly shorter neck so I don't park her out as much and I stretch her neck out a tad more. I started by having my babies step their front feet on a raised surface and their back feet off of it, and have a treat for them to reach for. It taught parking out at the same time as stretching the neck. Also, every time I would stop and turn towards them I would set them up just right, so they got used to having to do that.

I push back to set the back feet and pull forward to get their front feet set, and if you can't get that you can always place their feet in classes.

Also some people like one back foot forward as arabs do, some want to square up such as a quarter horse would do, and some people have them fully park out as a saddlebred.

(My stallion's old owners had him with one offset back foot.)

(here he is with them both even.)

(her neck wasn't stretched, but her body was good in this one.)

I hope these helped you out a bit. Of course actual show pictures help a lot more, but I'm afraid I don't have many good ones. It's hard being the photographer and getting the horse set up right!

I have some taken in the ring during the show. We always do this so we can look later and see how we can improve. Sometimes I think people learn more if you show pictures and explain what you would do better.

Here is promise and Kyle showing. He has her body great, very square with the neck nicely out BUT hes crowding her and standing much too close. He should have taken 2 steps back. This is why her ears are back as hes baiting her and crowding her at the same time. Promise has a very pretty head and see how hes blocking his own horse by standing too close??? Promise won this class under one judge and got 2nd under the other judge to the filly next to her being shown by Brenda Plass

Heres Tease at the World Show Last year. She was really dealing me a fit at this show. This is not bad but not great. Notice I should have had her front legs a little more forward and the back legs are not really set. But see the judge (i know its blurry) Once the judge comes I just start showing my horse as its too late to get her set perfectly. She had come in heat at this show and probably this was her worst showing. But again shes got a nice expression, good neck in the pose and ears are up.
