Not a good weekend here....My oldest son's friend's younger brother and three other kids are in the hospital - three including Jamie are in guarded condition... the driver was drunk and the other kids got in the car with her.

. The driver swerved to avoid hitting a deer and rolled the car several times. She was arrested and charged with DWI.

When I would go to pick Andy up at his friend's house, Jamie was always there with a smile and he was often in his dad's feed store in the town where I work. Just a good kid in the wrong place at the wrong time.

This comes almost a year to the day (this Thursday the 26th) that 5 girls were killed on routes 5 & 20 in Bloomfield, NY.

Butch was a friend of our neighbor's - got to meet him when my neighbor had his 40th birthday party on May 17th. He was in a motorcycle accident and was found in a ditch with his bike in the field nearby.

Please add Jamie and his family and Butch and his family to the prayer list.

Thank you -

Prayers for the kids and their families. Keeping them in my thoughts and hope all the kids are on the mend.

The kids are on the mend - but Andy got more details on the accident - all of the boys were ejected from the car when it went off the road and rolled several times. The driver was not seriously hurt.

One boy is in a medically induced coma(?), another broke an arm, leg and collarbone and another broke nd arm and almost lost his ear....

Thank you for keeping them in the prayer circle... it is tough to see kids and their families go through this.

Butch's funeral was yesterday. He left behind two young children and a wife and there is a marker where he passed. One of my coworkers was the person who found him in a ditch.

And one of "my" seniors is in the hospital with a fractured skull and other injuries - there is an investigation going to find out what happened to him when he was walking to work - a bypasser found him having a seizure on the side of the road. I have 270 kids graduating this weekend from the high school I work at and the doctor gave this child the OK to attend in a wheelchair but only for an hour. He is in horrible pain and I hope that can be relieved.

I tell the kids that they become "my kids" as I help make sure they graduate... from ordering their diplomas and caps and gowns to invitations to awards ceremonies to the kids that get detentions and referrals... some kids had wicked senioritis and two were ready to quit three weeks out but we told them to stick it out. Those two will graduate and they always tell me thank you when I see them.

And, Mercy had a part with the special education students - she visited in November and then the kids invited her to go with them to the nursing home where they do an internship. One student who does not like school asked when Mercy is coming back. I hope we can keep her interested in school.

My brother-in-law lost a good friend this week - another young dad who wasn't feeling well and he died - they worked at a Hess station in CT together when they were in high school.

Thank you to all for your thoughts and prayers. Today is the one year anniversary of the loss of the Fairport Five, or the Fairport Angels. My heart breaks for their families.

Hug your family members every chance you get - even when they might make you angry or upset. I know the losses that others have experienced have only made me more grateful during a time when everyone is feeling low with the economy, unemployment and other challenging stuff. Every day I wake up to my family members and friends and my neigh-neighs (as my younger son Ben likes to call them), I realize how blessed I am.
