Who thinks it's proper to wear string straps, strapless & deep cut dresses? I saw it at both the World Show and Nationals. I'm sure most of you have heard about the girl that about bounced out of her dress at World!

Go head, flame me. I think it's just wrong and inappropriate!

I think they should have some sort of sleeve because I have seen a lot of women in string straped dresses that the strap falls down and it kind of distroys the whole affect of what they are wearing. Also I would be affraid of winding one of those long filmy shawls around a cart wheel.

Now that im thinking about it I think there should be some rule that says sleeves on dresses whould be so and so wide etc. This is a family event and little kids, and everyone else, don't want to see more skin then necissary(sp).

That is pretty-much the Equine Canadian, and American Open Driving rule...dresses must have a sleeve, preferably long sleeves. The only ones who wear dresses with spagetti straps and go sleeveless around here, are the draft horse folks, in Ladies Single Pleasure Classes.

I'm pretty sure that strapless dresses are forbidden in the AMHR ring... but heck if you want to risk something close and risque more power to ya! Honestly (I am not into dresses really) I think people use it as an "excuse to dress up" and they like to be pretty and put on a show so I'm not really bothered by it myself.

You can't legislate taste. We could go with ADS rules and require long sleeves and lap robes, but I love the beautiful dresses, the sparkle, the fashion. Obviously, my version of what's tasteful differs wildly from some of the competitors. I personally like the AMHR rule of no strapless dresses, and there is a rule for Western Country Pleasure that says no bare shoulders (too bad it wasn't enforced) I'd like to see the same rule for Country Pleasure. Of course, that doesen't curtail the backless, slit up to the &^%*, but it would help.

Well, I have mixed feelings on what has been posted. I really enjoy seeing everyone dressed up, and I actually enjoy wearing a dress for my driving classes. (I don't any other time in life. He He)

I do agree that you should be covered enough so that you do not bounce out of your dress or the slit goes way up to high. I have seen both of those before and it totally wrecks the whole look. Also this year there was a lady with a shorter skirt in a driving class at AMHR nationals. Everything looked really nice until you got to her legs. She was wearing knee high panty hose and it was all exposed. It looked terrible.

The AMHR rule book does say no strapless dresses. The dress I am wearing in my Avatar I bought for nationals this year. It was strapless so I bought ones you can clip on. Now with me being paraniod I also had them sewn in. I was fully covered and I think extra cautious not to have any extras showing or popping out. I was also wearing the long gloves that go up to my elbows, so I guess it was kind of like sleeves. I have to disagree with the string straps as I think as long as they are there you have the extra support.

That's not true that it wasn't enforced for Western CP,. I was in at least one class where a competitor was i believe DQed (not certain about the DQ but i KNOW for a fact that she was spoken to by the judges as I was 'parked' next to her) for having on spaghetti straps and heard of several others.....

Boinky, I'm glad to hear that. I was thinking of the WCP Stakes class where a driver had on a sleeveless top and placed. Nothing racy, but bare shoulders.

Ok I can't sit on my hands any longer.

Here's the problem I have with the dressing issue - the youth classes. I witnessed at AMHR and watched on the internet

this past week girls in the 8-12 class wearing spaghetti strap dresses, WAY, WAY too old for them. To me, it is SO inappropriate for girls of this age group to have dresses cut down to here, exposing cleavage in some cases, rhinestone earrings hanging down to their shoulders. What can the parents of these little girls be thinking, dressing them this way to show to, in many cases, men judges?? Why do they want their 11-12 year old girls trying to look like they are 20? The judges do seem to reward it, so I guess that's the reason.

At least save it for the 13-17 class...

That being said, it's a darn good thing I only have a boy.

Now on the flip side, I also think that some ladies (myself included) are too OLD to pull off this type of dress, and

there were plenty of those in the ring, also. Upper arms giggling their way around the ring are not attractive.

Amen! I love the elegant look of single pleasure and an evening dress is great as long as it covers what needs to be covered LOL (bare shoulders/strapless okay just don't fall out of it!), but country pleasure and western/classic require a different look and I hope they do enforce the rules. I'd hate to see it all be the same.

I have always thought there was a rule against bare legs but I've seen some slit "up to there" dresses this year, and I don't think that's appropriate in any driving class.

I don't know what to say.

If I was showing and then came on here and read that someone was tearing my reputation apart because of my attire or my childs I would have a hissy! I am starting to think by all of the negative post about what people are wearing or their looks maybe there shouldn't be a web cam of these events. I love ya' all but with these posts I can see where they can only hurt people.
