The various harness topics got me thinking about how one goes about correctly purchasing a harness with a minimum of problems or is it just a given that purchasing a harness (whether it be an in stock or custom made) online from any of the mini tack sites is a process of trial and error?
I have a 34" gelding who is finally healing up from some nasty summer sores and my new gelding who is slightly taller (37") and more on the slender side will be arriving next month. Both are seasoned driving horses but I've yet to purchase harness and cart for either of them and I'm getting that "deer in the headlights" look on my face after reading all the trials and tribulations folks have gone through. At this point I'll be in search of a pleasure harness for each of them along with an easy entry cart that has ample leg room for myself as I have a replaced knee that doesn't like to stay in one position for extended periods of time. Hoping that the cart will be able to used for either of them despite the size difference.
Any advice on where and how to start the measuring process? Any online sites that show a chart of an actual harness with good descriptions of the various parts? I tend to get lost once we get past the bridle and reins!!!
