Hi All,

I would liked to hear or hopefully you all to shared your experience with vaccination schedule. ;)

I used my vet to give our horses vaccines and it really cost me more than I thought.

But want to know what is the best vaccines brand and what they really needs.

Mostly I want to know vaccines for broodmares and foals.

I know stallion need regular vaccines in each years.

For rabies as for every 3 years (if not going to many publics) and I know rabies is required in each year if for plan to show and etc..

How much it will cost to order for bundles of vaccines from?

Where you order it from?

As Dodge Fort or another brands as what you don't dislike about...

I did give some shots to our miniatures, It doesn't bother me to give to them.

Our vet gave our miniatures EWT/RF $33.00 and West Nile Virus $26.00.

What is your normal prices?

Any info will be very helpful for me. ;)

God Bless!..

You will get as many answers as you would if you asked what to feed, LOL.

If you have a receipt from your vet, it should have the basic series that he/she gave.

For this specific area I give rabies, 5way and previnile. If a horse were to be heavily shown I would converse with my vet on any other vaccines that the "pros would outweigh the cons " and go from there.

All my horses get vaccinated early spring, with the exception of pregnant mares, they get vaccinated 4-6 weeks before delivery, which sometimes ends up being 2-4 weeks, they don't read the books on all the how toos

Hi Kerrie!

We vaccinate all of our horses the first week in March. Everyone gets a 5 way (E/W Enceph, Rhino, Flu, Tetanus), rabies, and West Nile.

Then any new foals get a 5 way and West Nile at 4-5 months old, and then a booster of 5 way and West Nile as well as a rabies one month later.

My vet and I always use the Ft Dodge vaccines and so far I have not had a single problem giving them to any of my horses.

Edited to add that any show horses are also revaccinated with Rhino/Flu in September if they have shows around that time.

Just a heads up. There is a brand of west nile that is called previnile. It is proven to be effective for a full year. The typical west nile is only effective for a few months which is why it is usually given just prior to peak season, but often leaves gaps of time when its effectiveness is wearing off.

The extra few bucks per shots is worth the cost in my opinion.
