I emailed mare stare but never heard back. What do you have to have to put your barn camera live online? Do I hook my camera to my computer? Mine is a corded cam. Also if i do that does that mean i cant watch on the tv screen?

Flirt will be our first to foal.

Thanks for any help

Kay i am just getting so excited about flirt foaling that lee *filly*

:. If you can get a camera online for that mare i will be glued to the computer.

awww thanks leanna. Im so excited i can hardly stand it. weve been betting amoung ourselves wether it will be a colt or filly and the color

my guess is a black and white colt.

rusty and kyle think its a bay filly.

I really dont care though just want a healthy foal on the ground!

Im suprised they dont have on the mare stare site how this all works? I know they give you the free software but im just not sure how the rest goes getting the camera to the computer?

I am not sure about your camera but I can tell you how mine works.

I have a wirless system....with the cameras up at the barn, which are "attached" to the switcher box (all at the barn) which is then attached to a transmitter located on the outside of the barn, and it sends a wireless signal to the house.

Now at the house, my "receiver" plugs into the wall and then into the TV (compostite cables). I have two recievers. One to go in each bedroom.

Then I have a third receiver that I have by my computer, to get the cams online you have to get a video capture device (like $50 radio shack) and it plugs in computer via USB, then you get a set of compostite cables and from the video capture device go into your receiver.

Now if you only have one receiver then yes the picture will only be on teh computer.....unless you get a splitter and then you have both as long as your TV is remotely close to the computer.

I got my extra receivers for $30 each, from cctvwholesalers.com

Don't know about Mare Stare....last year we had our cam hooked up

to TV & also on our website so 4-H kids could watch at home but my

techno son did it all as I don't have a clue about this stuff.

I'm interested in hearing more on this thread as I might consider Mare Stare

for this foaling season.

thanks erica!! but my cam has a cord. hmmmm. surely theres still a way to do this. someone sent me another email addy so im going to try that one and see if they can tell me how this works.

I promise if i can figure it out ill try to get it so anyone can look

Heres a pic of flirt who is due early march but looks like shes going to go sooner.

I'm "techno" illiterate. Just wanted to say what a pretty girl Flirt is and can't wait to see what she produces. I have 2 going in March that I'm watching. :bgrin

She must be busy. Took her some time to get back to my first inquery, but then she was fast to reply to the rest of my questions

I can forward them to you if you'd like... I had the same question.

I have a wired camera that goes to a tv in my bedroom. I need to buy a video capture device, about $50 (and up, but the 50 are fine) so that I can connect it to my computer. The cam will only be online when your computer is on and online.

I also want to keep it on my TV, so I need to get a splitter. That will allow me to have it on both. I want them in different rooms, but they're next to each other, so that's what I still need to figure out... I guess if there is an extension cable or something lol!

I plan to get mine on marestare either later this month, or more likely, beginning of March. My mare is due end of April.

sedeh thanks so much for the compliment on flirt. shes such a pretty mare and has really stolen my heart.

Jessi

If you dont mind could you send it to me? I think i already have a capture device so sounds like i just need to get a splitter? thanks so much! [email protected]

You might want to pass this along to your Techie Guy if you have someone help set you up. One of my web clients was trying to have a webcam set up for their foaling stall and they were running into some issues...so I asked the Tech Genius where I used to work. Here is what he said (my client is on DSL):

QUOTE:

It works just like any p.c. You just cable it up (or more probably

use wireless since it would be in a barn) to your DSL router, and use

the public address of the router to connect to it. If the DSL router

only has a connection for one p.c., then you need to get a home

router/firewall box to sit in-between (should anyway, much better

security). Those are cheap, basic ones are about $50. In that case,

the additional step is to open the appropriate port(s) on the firewall -

it's not hard, you just use a web browser to configure the firewall.

So, it would look something like this:

[DSL modem] ----- [wireless router/firewall] ------ [end devices (pc, camera, etc.)]

Use a web browser on the p.c. to configure the firewall to allow the

camera ports, probably port 80, and maybe some additional ports for

audio if supported. The camera manual should tell you all that.

The other thing is, since it's residential DSL, they probably don't

have a fixed IP address. So, you would have to update the web page

link any time the DSL IP address changed (you can view the public IP

address through the web page for configuring the router/firewall).

Usually they stay the same as long as the DSL modem is powered on - but

the IP will change if they shut the modem down for awhile, or if the

phone company shuts things down on their end for maintenance or

something. My IP (cable) tends to stay the same for as much as months

at a time - it would probably stay the same throughout the foaling

period I would guess. So they would have to tell you the IP once it's

set up, and you would link to it something like this:

Bob's Foaling Stall

Some ISP's might block port 80 if they don't want you running a server -

in that case you can change the web port to something else. The

manual should cover that. So, let's say you set the port to 24000 to

slip by the ISP, then the link would be "111.222.333.444:24000".

Clear as mud? It's simpler than it sounds.

END QUOTE

thanks jean im trying to make sense of that lol

I have dsl. So i have a dsl router and my daughters techie boyfriend put another wireless router on for security. So i have both of those. (too bad daughters boyfriend is in illinois) so maybe i dont need anything else? this makes my head hurt LOL

so would i hook the camera into the security router is that what hes saying?

KayKay, I have had my cams on line for 5 years or more, I have 10 cams right now, threw Wefoal, he has the SMP which I like as more can see it.

I have mine hooked up to two TV's threw a splitter and a VCR so I can also record or play back over the net.

I have two switchers so I can take some off line if I have a mare foaling but still be able to watch the rest.

If you need good reasonable cams, I got mine from CCTV Imports, they have everything you will need the cables, RCA converters for the cams, night vision and regular cams.

You should get the ones that have at least 480 TV Lines. they are much clearer.

I have several infrared/waterproof night cams, they are color in the daytime and at night turn to black and white unless you add a light. With the regular cams you will have to order a lens seperatly, the night cams you dont so its a bit cheaper with the night cams. and no adjustment to focus in on the night cams.

If you need any Help just PM me or email me I will be glad to try to help you or anyone who needs help with there cams.

here is the link to

CCTV

hope the link works

I'm guessing a healthy bay pinto filly with blue eyes

Great, I can't wait till you get on line. Woo Hoo kay kay.

Let me know if you need help getting more cams ha ha, I Love watching

good clear ones.

KayKay - I'm so sorry! I respond very quickly to all the emails that I receive. We have been exceptionally busy this year and it could be that my box was flooded, but I'm sure I didn't get it or I would have emailed you back.

I hope Ric can give you a hand and I can't wait to see your cams online

thanks so much heather! I dont know why my emails didnt go thru?? I get so irritated with email

Ric has been just great and so patient with me. I just wish i had called him sooner. I cant go out and get a video capture device as we have been hit now with that huge snow/ice storm. Flirt is passing very loose stools today so not sure shes going to hold out until I get this done LOL. But you know maiden mares they can "act" like they are ready to foal and go weeks

Im just worried now that we are going to lose power.

I have to vouch for Heather at MareStare... she responded very quickly to my query just recently. I've always had great support from them even though I'm not a customer (yet).

I want to do my own refreshing web cam on my site and streaming video through marestare. I can't watch streaming video at work. I've got to get some more equipment! lol
