I agree with Parmela. After five years it's hard to take buy back a horse, discount or take back to rehome maybe - but buy back w/o a contract no.
If the vet can't point to a "this is what's wrong with your mare" problem, the breeder may be right.
If you've been happy with the other purchases, then I'd buy more and keep the mare or rehome her yourself. I sold one as a pet that had a horrible dystocia as a likely will never get in foal, based on what we knew at the time. Their vet said there was not indication she couldn't carry a foal (we tried a few years after the dystocia), they exposed her to their stallion she took the second year they had her and she's been successfully having foals for them since.
