Cutting to the chase, one of my gledings has put on a little more love for a reason which has now been stopped (he was eating the other geldings food, food trying to get a horse fat) ANYWAYS, I've been working him harder for the past few weks, but I know from the past getting weight off this guy is impossible so I want to try cinnamon.

From what I've read people mix it in with the horses feed, but my gelding only gets hay(really easy keeper) So could I just feed the 1tsp in my hand and feed it to him??? if he eats it that way of course. Or should I mix it with just a WEE amount of complete feed, like less than 1/4 cup to give it with something??

I'm certainly no expert but if he'll take it from your hand I see no reason not to do it that way. Otherwise you may have to be a bit more creative. My suggestion would be to first try giving him just a small taste and see how he likes it.

l've been using the stuff for the past few months mixed in with the beetpulp...one of mine doesn't get beetplup so l've just used a little piece of bread with the stuff in there folded over and squished closed and leaving it in with his hay and he does eat it that way...

I fed mine in a bit of beet pulp too.... and had to start out with a very small amount and build up to a teaspoon over a few days. So if your horse is not used to beet pulp- start with just that, then add a tiny bit of cinnamon and increase it when they eat that readily til you get up to the teaspoon. Yes, it works nicely, provided there are no other problems that cinnamon will not work for (low thyroid and other things)

One of my geldings was huge and bloated when I bought him last winter, he had a cresty neck too. I carefully started him on 1 cup grass/alfalfa pellets daily with his hay. I also started him on 1 teaspoon of Cinnamon with it by spraying water on the pellets so it would stick. Eventually I built him up to 2 cups of the pellets with a heavy sprinkling of the Cinnamon which he loved. At first he didn't like it but he didn't get anything else until he started eating it. He was so fat it scared me and he also had grossly overgrown hooves, so I had the fear of him foundering. Today he is clipped and in tiptop shape with exercise and doesn't need the Cinnamon anymore, it worked so well in 5 months it amazed me. I take Cinnamon pills when I can't get it in oatmeal or something else and it does work.

Where can you buy cinnamon pill? Health food stores or do you make your own?
