I've never had a horse get diarrhea before so this all new to me. My mini mare randomly got diarrhea last night, she is 3 months pregnant right now and I don't know if that is what is causing the issue. Her food is the same, she is getting the same vitamin supplement (Purina Free Balance). The only thing I changed was I gave them a mineral block two days ago, it has been really hot and humid and I wanted to make sure they got everything they needed and drank enough water. Any ideas? I was thinking about starting her on Brewers Yeast tonight I have some because I had bought a gelding that was thin and wanted to make sure he didn't have any stomach issues (he wasn't sick people that had him just didn't feed him enough for the big guy he was).

Perhaps she went overboard on the new mineral block. Do they have a plain salt block as well, or just the mineral block?

You already know my thoughts when we talked on the phone

It could be sand, the weather or many other things really it is hard to say over the internet. I have a mare that is very sensitive whilst preggo and often got the runs until I put her on Alfalfa, that seemed to make everyone go much firmer. Brewers yeast is a wise move

I had the same problem as Eagle. Colt I bought and he would tolerate grain for a few weeks, ( enough to think I was out of the woods) then he got them back. I wormed, I used 2 different probiotics, changed grain three different times, tried just beet pulp, tried ulcer meds,,, nothing worked. UNTIL I switched him to mostly alfalfa and some orchard grass. It has taken over 8 months to get him right.

Good luck!

It could very well be the mineral salt block. I have foals that will lick it so much that it give them the runs. I have seen some adult horses do the same. Maybe if you switched to a white salt block it would help.

I would take the salt block away for a day or two and see if there is any changes. It can take a couple of days for their system to regulate.

Good luck.
