ratio of Gatorade in horses water

I know you can use Gatorade to encourage horses to drink.......what I don't know is how much do you use?

What is the proper ratio of Gatorade to add to their water? Or does it matter?

Dona, When I was showing big horses, I had a gelding that just loved gatorade. He would drink it from the bottle. And when we were done for the day I would let him have as much as he wanted. Lorie

Dona you do not dilute Gatorade at all. Once you add water to it you have lost its ingredients.

Use it straight.

I have a horse that doesn't like to drink when it first turns cold, as in last week. So I add it and she does drink then. If that's on the order of why you add it, I have 2 30 gallon tanks and I just put a full bottle in, 32 ounces. I don't put it in the 2nd one, as I also have a horse that doesn't like it.

It isn't so much that it encourages them to drink, unless they happen to love it, but it helps to replace lost electrolytes when a horse is not drinking well. I start with a small amount and gradually build it up until they will drink it full strength. I use it for competitions and or long trailer rides and so start them on it several months prior to the day of the event just to be sure that when it is needed they will drink it.

All mine love it straight - up, room temp....I love the slurpy sound they make. The orange color does give 1 of mine the runny poop

unfortatlly that does seem to be their favorite. They would be willing to drink alot more than I ever give them.

When we've used it at shows for them to drink plenty of water away from home (we do bring water w/ us, vs. using it from the show grounds), I've diluted it about 1 part gatorade / 10 parts water. But after working them out, I give it to them maybe 1 to 1 as a treat. Still, they give me the "cookie" face and ears for the watered down version away from home!

I use the powdered gatoraide mix, and make it how the container says. Make sure you don't accidentally get the fruit punch kind, your horses will look like they are wearing lip stick.
