I have found that our horses, especially the show horses, look their best when I feed Purina Enrich 32 (Born to Win) along with beet pulp and orchard/alfalfa hay. The problem is that I am feeding 20 horses, have virtually no pasture currently (we are in the process of replanting after having removed pine trees), and am therefore unable to afford the $25/bag cost for the Enrich 32. Do any of you use a product that would be available in Florida that you feel is comparable to Enrich 32 but does not cost $25/bag? We are currently feeding strategy but I am finding that the horses are getting fat very easily unless I greatly reduce the amount. When I reduce it this much I worry about the nutritional benefit. Yes, now that it is cooler we will resume round penning most of the horses as well.

I'm interested in finding out, too. I feed Gro 'n Win (which I've heard is similar to Enrich 32). At $45.00CAD/bag, I'm glad I only have 4

But at least you're feeding a lot less than a regular "grain". A bag lasts me well over a month.

I use a lot of Enrich 32, and find it the best priced balancer I can locate here, and reasonable since not much is fed. But then I don't have 20. Wish I did. I also use Safechoice on weanlings and broodmare, it is low on starch and sugar.

I feed a ration balancer here and though the initial cost per bag is more, it comes out as well or better in the long run since you only feed a very small amount per horse per day. I average 20 - 30 horses on my small acreage and the ration balancer has been the most cost effective.

Becky:

Are you feeding Enrich 32?

No, I'm feeding Progressive Nutritions' Alfalfa Formula Diet Balancer. I just paid $24.20 for the last bags I got. But, with the small amount fed per horse per day (8 ozs), it comes out better than feeding a less expensive grain based diet. And my horses stay F-A-T. They are mostly dry lotted too.

I have noticed that the Enrich 32 varies around here from $21.95 to $33 a bag. It is worth shopping around, but $25 isn't that high of a price. When I think of changing feed, I just remind myself that it isn't worth it changing a program that is simple and works. I do wish there was a generic out there though.

I agree with both of you. After doing a lot of research, (Progressive isn't available here), the next best feed was the Enrich 32. It made a tremendous difference within a week and they seem satisfied. It is simple, I don't have to worry about too much of anything unnecessary, and very cost effective. It has put a topline on our large 2 year old, and I sometimes mix it with pellets or beet pulp.

garyo--TSC is checking for me Monday to see if they can get a new Blue Seal sort-of ration balancer called Min-A-Vit Lite. It has only 10% protein, so I think it'd be less than Gro-N-Win. I was paying quite a bit for that when I switched to Nutrena's Lite Balance. I'd like the Vit/Min back though. Maybe you can get that? If I find out more tomorrow, I'll let you know the price.

I am thinking of conditioning and showing one of my '09 fillies by myself. Not to sound dumb, but how much of the Enrich 32, beet pulp, and hay do you feed?

Thanks

Lynn

Gary-

Now that TSC is carrying some Nutrena and Purina feeds, wonder if they could get the Enrich 32 - it might be cheaper through them. I'm glad I'm only feeding a few horses as I really like the Enrich 32.

Good luck!!

I feed the ration balancer because I like to feed a good amount of forage, this way I am sure they aren't missing something in their diet. I give approx. 1/2 cup 2xs a day.

As far as TSC getting in Enrich 32 through a Purina dealer....I was told that was a no. Management at my local TSC said that Purina only has certain feeds they are contracted to sell to TSC. The manager and I often compare where to find the best feed and suppliment prices for products they don't carry.
