My mom made this cake for my nephews, Jonah and Eli. She made the choir boys on top, but now I do not remember what they're made of. They are (were? LOL!) edible. The boys love it when my mom makes them cakes and cookies.

The candy decorations on the side had slid off a little. The pictures were taken after Robin (sister) took the cake home.

Thanks for looking!

I think that may be what they are. She uses fondant for some things she makes and marzapan (sp?) for other stuff. She's been crafty / artistic ever since I can remember. I sure wish I had some of that talent!!!

yes you can make figures like that out of fondant or marzipan or what they call gum paste. Gum paste and marzipan are usually waht are used as they hold up better than fondant which is usually used just for the cake itself like what you have seen on wedding cakes.

I know the work that is involved in things like that. Your mom is very talented

I asked my mom and the choir boys are made out of both marzipan and fondant... the head is one thing, the body the other. I can't remember which is which though

I'll bet the kids were thrilled to get a cake like this, especially because they could eat the boys. Your mom is very talented.

She even made the little people and their faces? OMG they are so cute and perfect. How the heck do you eat that? I'd want to save it.

Jill your mom's baking is to pretty to eat. I remember when you posted pictures of some cookies that she made.To you and your family wishing all of you HAPPY NEW YEAR.
