Shawna, how did you know to tune in???
Wefoal is under construction and I could not update my message board.
The mare paced for hours. I was concerned the foal was malpositioned. You know how you worry about everything at the end.
Fortunatly it was a picture perfect delivery.
I give the recommended dose of Regumate which is 1cc per 100 pounds. Some breeders give up to twice the recommended dose. I increased the amount after 300 days and you need to increase it during the pregnancy as they get larger. I did choose to have her foal out through the Regumate. She actually had Regumate the morning of the day she foaled.
O.K. welll almost. When I checked her in the morning of July 7th she had small bags, but slightly larger than the night before. When I brought her in in at 3pm her udders were hard and I could easily express colostrum. She was rock hard and waxed by 8 pm. And she foaled at 1:18 am on the 8th.
So you see Regumate does not stop a birth.
