MANY THANKS to Trace Anderson of Triangle Acres and Jackie and Stuff Tyler of Emerald Glenn Farm for sponsoring the ROVING REPORTER CONTEST for Shetland Congress!
Our daughter Samantha was one of the winners of that contest. The experience at Congress was a lot of fun and helped her gain additional experience as a "reporter".
She is only 15 years old but she is an aspiring writer and is already pretty certain that she wants a career in broadcast journalism. She is yet another step closer to that goal because she was hired last week to do feature stories on prep sports and prep athletes for Fox Sports North. They specifically wanted a teen to cover kids in sports and do the features from a teens perspective rather than how an adult might cover the same story. She will be doing both written features and videos and is thrilled about this opportunity and will be doing 1 or 2 features a week for them. MY main job (besides being a chaperone and chauffeur) is going to make sure she continues to stay focused on her schoolwork. She wanted to start doing PSEO stuff this year so she could start earning college credits now and I don't want that goal to fall by the wayside.
She has done her first feature story and it is on the Fox Sports North website and if you'd like to take a look at it here is the link. If you take the time to read it and/or watch the video and you think she did a good job on it be sure to click the "like" button on the top of the page and/or leave feedback for her.
***by the way***
As one of the Shetland Congress "Roving Reporters" she won a FlipCam and used it to tape her interview so THANKS AGAIN to Trace, Jackie and Stuff...you all were instrumental in helping Samantha make progress in her journalism career!
