So after reading the comments from a few exhibitors that said that they didn't know it was against the rules to have a glittered horse, how many of you know that the current trend of stretching halter horses out is against the rules in AMHA??

I have not gotten to watch much of the World show, however, and I know the angle they are filming from may be to blame, I have noticed that the judges do not know that stretched horses are to be dqed, because they are placing them...high.

So that sends a message to newbies that rules do not matter.

True?

Actually there is no AMHA rule that says a horse is to be DQd for being stretched. The rule book states rhat a stretched horse is to be penalized after the initial warning by the judges.

Perhaps the judge hasn't been warning them--no initial warning, no penalty--or perhaps any penalty assessed is still not enough to knock some horses out of the top placings.

I have not been watching so cannot comment on how they are standing.

I think a lot of times "some" rules are ignored or not inforced, especially things like stretching that crosses different breeds. You know, allowed in that breed unacceptable in this one.

And placing a horse that is posed in an unacceptable manner should be penalized, not rewarded, as they are doing now. If there is a rule in the rulebook, it MUST be followed or the entire rulebook is little more then a sham. If we want our horses and our shows to be taken seriously then the entire thing needs to be taken seriously, including the rules.

There are a few rules that have been thrown out of the window over the years. I don't have my rule books handy right now, but I know there is one that states if all is equal in the halter classes then the smaller horse should be placed over the taller one. The judges always place the taller ones!

I saw one stretching way to much to where you could see the horse standing on its tippy toes in the back and it was during one of the World Grand Champ classes. Horse was gorgeous to but it was obvious he was stretched way to far out.

The rules for A and R are not the same on some things, so it's wise for folks to be aware of both. That has been in the A rule book for a long time. I have seen some horses that are so stretched, it looks ridiculous. Warps the way the hind end looks and makes them look all out of porportion. I dont think it's pretty.
