I have decided to try and start running 3-4 times per week and am wondering if anyone has any advice?

Go and sit down untill the notion passes!!!

I LOVE jogging! It is VERY addicting!!!

You go!! I have only been running for

6 years, but sticking with it has changed

my life.

I don't know how old you are or how fit you

are, so if you are just starting, start slow and

slowly increase your distance until your are

running at least 30 minutes or so. 3 or 4 times

a week can help maintain weight, tone your body

and MOST IMPORTANT, helps with lowering

stress and creates positive outlook!!!

Good Luck!

Sandy

I used to be an avid runner. I'm paying the price these days, but it was a great outlet when I was younger and more high-strung.

Now I think Jane has the right idea. Pass the chocolate this way Fizzy...

It's terribly hard on your joints and lower legs, at least it was on mine. I would consider walking or cycling or swimming first. That would help strengthen your muscles so they could better support the impact. Definitely start slow. And watch out for ice and creeps!

If I'm out jogging.... I take a mini with me... I don't look so odd then... ROFL... or better yet.. I drive... (the car), and the notion passes... ROFL.... Sometimes I ride our QH mare.. and tow a mini... I watch them jog... and that seems to work for me... I get so tired watching... just a tiny little trot..... wears me out... Lol..

God Bless.... let me know how it works out! Also, if you are serious about this, take a dog with you. I've had problems with loose dogs in our neighborhood, beit with a mini or not. The horses smell the dog coming before I see it, and that helps alert me to possible problems. I notice the nose flairs out.. they stop for a moment, and then go..... but slower...

God Bless,

l asked both my daughters as they come out to the farm 3x a week to run down the roads getting ready for the big Hypothermic Half Marathon in March and they

both said if your going to run make sure you have proper footwear plus the right socks it will make all the difference between a good run and a painful one.

I am against it......wasn't in my youth ....now that every part of my body is pretty much junk from all my athleticism.....I see the error of my ways......a nice walk to the barn or pasture once a day seems to do it for me...then tossing those flakes of hay and carrying water is my current body building outlet.........and aerobics....my body prefer anaerobic these days

If you are bound and determined...really good shoes .....really really good shoes....warm up and cool down.....incorporate plenty of flexibility exercises better yet take up yoga......and start slow

Good shoes....layered clothes.....and remember to stretch your legs before AND after.

Oh, and start out slow and easy. If you push yourself too much you won't go out again.

If you do it right, there is an adrenalin rush that will eventually kick in after a few times out and you will start enjoying it.

Occansionally when I run, I take Secret with me. (A very good wrokout) Altho it doesnt happen very often :-(

Ooh, Lisa, just thought of something....if you can't make it go away, offer to muck out for someone, that's far better exercise.

If you are dead set on jogging get yourself the best sports bra you can afford- not everyone is built like me ...ie when I go for a mammogram it takes then half an hour to find them and two seconds to take the picture

Jogging is awesome!! I run 5 miles a day 6 days a week! Once you get started, It is very addicting and you feel sick on the days you dont run.

In the winter i do my miles on an elliptical exercise machine, which seems to be just as good of a substitute, and definately easier on the ankles/lower legs.

Im only 17, so I guess im not yet worried about regretting it later. Maybe by the time Im old there will be better pain killers

yep thats the attitude I had.......now at 36 with a body effectively in it's 60's I wish I would have not been so cocky

actually I will not let either of my sons play football or do weight lifting/bodybuilding until they are 16-17......and the reason is the same as why horse people do not advocate riding and jumping yearlings......growth plates
