Hi Folks. I just got back from visiting Sandy and Gary. I stayed an extra day because I just didn't have the heart to leave Sandy.
As of noon hour today, Gary was still holding on but I don't know how much longer it's going to be. Not much, I'm sure. When I arrived there on Saturday, he certainly knew me and was pleased with the gifts and greetings I brought for him. He was able to talk a bit, but mostly just listened to us or slept. By Sunday afternoon, there was a significant deterioration in his condition, but the pain meds were keeping him comfortable. When Sandy called the hospital around 10:30 last night, they told her he was resting peacefully, so she was able to get some sleep. This morning they told her that he'd had a rough night and had need more or the pain meds more often. They started his dialysis treatment at 7:00 a.m. which he handled reasonably well for a couple of hours, but then the pain just got to be too much. More pain meds again to take the edge off. Two of his sons are expected to arrive from PA late tonight. I just hope they make it in time.....
As for Sandy, she's doing about as well as can be expected. What worries me the most about her is that she's really questioning her faith, and she feels that God must really hate her. Please keep that in mind when you pray for her, and ask for strength and renewal for her. Sandy's son and daughter are an absolute Godsend for her, and she has a number of close friends around her for support.
Please continue to hold Gary and Sandy up in prayer, or in your hearts and thoughts. They need it now more than ever. As soon as I get more news, I'll let you know.
