An email I got that's worth passing on.

Since it’s almost Christmas I thought I would like to pass this along. Help our troops and those helping them. Could we each buy at least one thing at Sears this year?

How does Sears treat its employees who are called up for military duty? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut (because of loss of civilian pay) and lose benefits as a result of being called up.

Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist/National Guard employees for up to two years.

I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution. I suggest we all shop at Sears, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement it well deserves.

Pass it on.

I decided to check this before I sent it forward. So I sent the following e-mail to the Sears Customer Service Department:

I received this e-mail and I would like to know if it is true. If it is, the Internet may have just become one very good source of advertisement for your company. I know I would go out of my way to buy products from Sears instead of another store for a like item, even if it's cheaper at the other store.

This is their answer to my e-mail:

Dear Customer:

Thank you for contacting Sears. The information is factual. We appreciate your positive feedback.

Sears regards service to our country as one of greatest sacrifices our young men and women can make. We are happy to do our part to lessen the burden they bear at this time.

Please pass this on to all your friends. Sears needs to be recognized for this outstanding contribution and we need to show them as Americans, we do appreciate what they are doing for our military!!!

As a former Guardsman maybe I should expound on this a little bit. The loss of wages can be quite significant depending on the rank of the individual when they go from civilian pay to military pay. The value of continuation of insurance for the family can be huge depending on how near the dependents live to military medical care facilities and how strongly the family feels about continuing their care with their usual doctor/dentist vs. new medical care providers. Having had professional experience with the total unconcern some employers have for their "weekend warriors" when they're activated I can tell you that the Sears policy is indeed not only generous but quite unusual.

I already do. All my major purchases come from SEARS. Because of "Makeover Home Addition". In fact I even sent a letter to Sears to let them know thats why they have my business. Good to know they give even more.

Thanks so much for posting that. It is so sad how hard it is for my son Kenny to get employment because he is in the National Guard. Many will not hire him because they dont want him gone one weekend a month and a previous job he had was horrible as they kept threatening to fire him for being in the National Guard. We filed complaints etc but it didnt do much good.

Way to go Sears!

I had heard this about Sears this week too. What a great company to care for those who are so caring for all of us and working so hard, in so great conditions...

Thanks Donna for posting..

I have afriend who is stationed in Hawaii!! It was their first choice, anyway he just left for Irac for a year..

They have a 3 and 7 yr old, it is hard on Mom-he left Friday, but she is trying to be strong so the children arent too stressed..

And for those of you that think the troops just want to come home-wrong with this guy-he doesnt want to pull out and then have them come over here and fight on our soil, I have been saying this the whole time we heard promises of the troops coming home from O. The military is proud to do what they are over there, and all the bleeding hearts that stand in front of our post office EVERY Saturday(with signs saying end the war, bring them home) need to find something more important or productive to do in their lives or do some charitible things, not stand out with a sign of peoples woes... IMO... I dont think it is doing any good.. I'm glad they care but I think their caring is misplaced...

Lee and I are doing our share. We just got a super deal on a Panasonic 50 inch plasma television for $900 after all discounts etc., a theatre system & a stand to hold the television....... If we ever sell this farm & get to build a new house I most likely will buy my appliances from them also. I think they price match like items at other stores also.

And for those of you that think the troops just want to come home-wrong
In a poll of our military - McCain received 68% & Obama 23% (goes to show our soldiers KNOW what is best for our country right now)...... Bless all of our soldiers & their families -
