We are taking Sammy down to SugarCreek for sale tommarow. They usually go pretty high down there ..and he's registered so im expected to get allot out of him.

I hate selling horses, its hard. Specially in this case when i know he has to go but i dont want to let him go. Its so hard ..but then i see some people who just sell there horses like there a old table or something. I dont think i will cry but im not sure.

How do you guys deal with selling your horse?

Why does he have to go? How much do you expect to get for him??? Cant you get more for a registered arab outside a stockyard sale? I know that my horses are my business and the foals I produce and some of the older ones that I buy are going to be sold... I love them all while they are here and they know it and I make sure when they do go that they go to someone who will love them as well. I have sold minis at the Mt Airy sale, got 1125 dollars for a stallion and he was the second highest selling male there. I paid more than twice that for him.... I think at most auctions that was a great price. regular all breed stock auctions dont bring much.

Yes its always a little hard to see them go.. Im really ok with it when they get the exact home I want for that horse and the owners keep in touch with me, which so far has happened every time Ive sold a horse. I would amagine selling at a auction would be hard because I wouldnt like not knowing who I sold the horse to and I know I wouldnt get the price I want for my horses at a auction.

But yes, it can definatly be hard, actually I think I have my little Ernie sold

But there again, it worked out perfect... he will be here till Christmas, he will be a little girls Christmas present, shes been wanted a miniature to drive and it is the perfect home for him so what more could I ask?

I never say bad things to anyone but hon, you change your mind on horses like some do socks. Why does "this one" have to go this time? I think y'all better

down on the horse buying until you figure it all out. My concern is the poor horses. They do feel and think. JMHO Sorry if your feelings are hurt once more but someone had to say it. You're a nice kid with great horsie dreams. Figure out which one or two you really love and stop there.

Oh, not Sugar Creek! That is the worst place. You know the meat buyers will probably just buy him there. Registered or not. Baker will have him! If you do not have someone ride him in the ring he is as good as slaughtered and for what reason? He will not go high especially this time of year. Have you watched how they beat the horses to get them to go into the betting ring? Most horses go there for any where in between $200 to $650. I am sure you could find him a home for that.

Edited to add: You have been there before so you know the above prices also go for registered stock. I have only seen one or two go higher and they were palominos or paints bred. And that is few and far between that they actually went higher.

Take a look here before you decide to sell your horse at a sad auction.

http://www.columbiabasinequinerescue.org

Watch the powerpoint show called THE FEEDLOT STORY linked from the first page.

I have rescued two from that kill pen in the last month and sent money for bail on more.

Please educate yourself on what happens to the horses sold through these sales and get your horse a GOOD, APPROVED home. Even if you have to give him to them.

I personally don't do the auction thing on selling (might buy :D) as the ones I have sold, I stay in contact with. Shoot even the dogs I have gotten I still e-mail the people I got them from do you think I need to cut the apron strings

Does your family buy horses to sell for a profit? Maybe all the buying/selling is making you down, sure would me! You sound like you fall head over heels then poof, they have to be sold. That is SO unfair!! Just a couple of weeks ago you had said your Mom didnt want you to sell Sammy, and now you are. Girl I know that would tear me up. Maybe talk to them , see why they keep doing this to you. Or, just mess with those you have now and if they get another, leave it be. I know, easier said than done! Good luck!

GOOD NEWS!

In the process of attempting to load him Friday morning ...we failed! and we failed HORRIABLY!!!!

The reason this keeps happening me is because up untill a year ago i had my barrel horses and that was all they knew ..run barrels and eat. They were not loving or anything and i didnt really consider them 'mine'. They were ones dad bought for me, took care of, fed ext. Well then Coco came along and i then had my own horse and wanted to take care of them, feed them, clean them, baby them because i realized i loved doing that stuff.

Well all the horses i ever got were 'mine' ..BUT SOMEWHERE IN TIME they became dads and he always sold them while i was at school or something and it ticked me off. Well this time it was because im somewhat afraid of Sammy after seeing after being nocked over 10 times (he's young and big and a arabian ....that equals one heck of a time!!!) and dads seeing that and wanted to sell him. I give in easy and Sammy has only been here about 2 month so we havent had time to completely bond like Coco and I. I try to not go agianst my dad to much, anyway he knows what horses of mine to not mess w/ ...(my mini's and ponies, its quit easy to see i have complete control of them!!!!!!!).

Half way through the loading of him i told dad that we shouldnt sell him. Dad argued about 3 minutes with me ...but i felt really strong about this at that moment. We talked about it and were DEF. going to look into sending him to a trainer (it didnt work out well before because they were charging OUTRAGIOUSLY high prices!). But the training is a whole nother topic. Im spending time trying to bond with him ...because i know arabians bond like none other.

We still have Sammy ...now time to taim the wild beast! I think i have him for life ..i can see having him for a LONG time. Not letting dad sell him (anyway he's in my name ..lol)
