I did the tests just for fun. I wish there was a test for dun. :bgrin

The lab sends a nice certificate with all the info and reg.#'s.

The little tyke is my friend's son.

My filly, Little Anna

no Agouti, no silver.

I guess she is a black dun, reg grulla.

My mare Moose, (chestnut)

no Agouti, no silver (I was sure she carried silver!)

My mare Semi,

heterozygous agouti, hterozygous red, LWO neg (she has blue eyes and 4 or 5

white hairs! and an overo dam)

Congratulations and thanks for sharing. The Chestnut mare with the flaxen mane and tail kind of blows some people's theory of the flaxen being a result of Silver doesn't it?

They are beautiful horses. It's nice to know what they are genetically.

Well, that's real interesting about your chestnut mare....We have one too with a very light mane & tail....I've been wondering if she carries silver....guess I should have her tested.

And that picture by the pond....simply STUNNING!

Thank you for sharing your information

Charlotte

P.S. did you notice anything familiar on my web site home page?

I would have guessed your filly Anna, to be some shade of bay - so that result surprised me!

Which leads me to her dam, Moose, who must be a dun. Never would have guessed that either! LOL! Except there is a picture on your website which shows a dorsal stripe, I believe. I also think there are a lot of chestnuts with flaxen manes/tails that do carry silver.. But your results show that there are some who certainly don't!

Charlotte, I saw it! Viki helped me find the picture.

That is cool!

I thought Moose carried silver for sure. NOT! hehe

And I was just sure that Little Anna was bay.

Very surprising to me.

:saludando: Hi! Cool pictures! Love your bay mare!

Your sorrel mare with the light mane/tail looks allot like my Amber mare (same color) and is minial pinto. Her sire was a sorrel pinto and her dam was a chestnut. It shows on her papers that her grand-dam was a bay. Her first (only) foal was a sorrel & white pinto. She's bred to my grey stallion. I wounder what her foal will be? But I wounder if she has that silver gene?

Thanks for sharing!

Oh shoot I thought that the flaxen mane and tail was also a silver gene

This stuff always blows my mind

Those are super pics Sandy and Anna is gorgeous

Here is my beauty, Merry Beth who is a half sister to Moose who came from

Sandy's farm

She's supposed to be a silver bay dun

I'm pretty sure that she still is

Beautiful horses. That 2nd picture with the reflections in the water should go to Equusite to picture of the day. It is georgeous!!

Lovely Semi has SPLASH- not Frame- Frame in minimal is rarely blue eyed, Splash in minimal is often blue eyed- both can be!!

Thanks for the compliments on the picture

Marty, I am just sure MerryBeth is dun, I was surprised that

Moose is, but knowing MerryBeth is, I guess they got

it from their sire.

I Do think MerryBeth is silver. We will just have to get her tested!

This is what a black dun looks like as a baby - I guess! (we all thought she was bay)

She gets very black when clipped, turn chocolate when growing out.

She has a yellow tint now under her dark coat.

Hey Rabbitfizz,

that is interesting! Thanks.

I love this geneitcs puzzle.

Do you know approx when there will be a dun test??

And Moose, Would you consider her sabino??

I think the filly is black, I don´t see dun, that´s a regular black foal coat.

Was the dorsal still present after clipping? A true dun has a clear dorsal all year round clipped or unclipped.

I don't know that she is dun, but her coat is diluted,

and she is not silver. I don't think her dam is palomino.

When she is clipped, the stripe is vivid.

Here is a pic of her freshly clipped.

What do ya think??

I have never had a black horse. Don't they clip off lighter??

She clipps off darker.

flaxen mane and tail do not equal silver gene. However, if you look at a horse that is chestnut with flaxen mane and tail, look at the lower legs. If they are a greyish/dark color then chances are HIGH that the horse carries the silver gene.

Sandy, your mare does not have grey lower legs, so wouldn't think silver gene.

Well I am no expert, but I feel that mare is a Red Dun and filly dun...However I have been told that the stripes on mine are "countershading"
default_whistling.gif
: :lol:I have 2 babieshere as well as my Jr. stallion have those stripes both as a foal and my Jr. stallion to this day and the dorsals are just as dark when clipped like the stripe on your filly! :ugh: Oh this color gentetic stuff is so confusing.

I have had two black horses here and they both have clipped out lighter until they grew back out...so I agree with your color determination on your filly.
