Can anyone give me the names of Shippers who go into Canada and back to the US? This would be in on the west coast.

This Lady is reasonable and wonderful to deal with.

Mary Mykytyn Home number 613-822-0375 or cell number 613-867-7447

Lives in Canada put goes to the U.S.

Mary Mykytyn is excellent, had her ship a mini mare for me, very reasonable rates, very friendly, keeps in touch by telephone and travels all over North America. A few weeks back she was in Alberta. I was going to have her ship my new stallion and mare to me but my husband decided to go get them and I went for the ride.

I have a question.. How much GST has to be paid when a hrose is brought over the border??

You pay 6% GST on the value of the horse (in Canadian funds). Depending which border crossing you use, you may also have to pay PST.

You do not pay GST on shipping if the transport originates in the US. At least that's the way it was awhile back, and I assume that hasn't changed.

So If I'm bringing from new york into Niagara Ontario. Im paying 6% of his price?

Yes, at the border they will convert the US purchase price into Canadian funds & you will pay 6% on that amount.

Make sure that you have all of the paperwork in place. Specifically a bill of sale from the seller - and proof that you paid that amount for the horse. Of course - the international health certificate (and negative coggins) are a must as well. The customs agents will sometimes ask for a website address and telephone number of the seller - they want to make sure that you are declaring the proper amount that you paid. If all that is in order - the border crossing should be relatively pain free - and you will only have to pay the 6% GST on the Canadian value (they will convert the US$ amount). Not sure about your PST - we don't have to pay it coming into Saskatchewan - but every province has their own rules on their provincial PST.

Congratulations on your new horse!!!

Hey,

Not sure where or when your were planning on getting your new horse, but i may be making a trip down to Massachusetts for *possibly* another horse...although nothing is final and im still deciding....PM me if you need a trip home for your horse if I do go....also, I did have a horrible experence with a particular hauling company who transports from Canada into the USA when I was working on getting Pocket here from Erica's place in Arkansas, after 4 months of back and forth emails and countless phone calls, the whole time they still planned on picking him up from Alabama and not AR....my health paper stamp was running out due to a time limit...so I ended up leaving work on a Saturday and drove to Arkansas from Ontario with a couple friends and a horse trailer in tow.

I wont mention company names, but just be careful as I was very surprised, used them in the past with great results and this time it was a complete mess.

I have to thank Erica again for being so patient during all of the sorting out with the hauling company
