Is there a link some where on LB that lists people/companies that ship horses? I've been to the one on the main page where you post for a quote or whatever else. What's the average shipping cost per mile?

Leslie

We use traveling horse and the LilBeginnings Transportation Board. Quotes can vary tremendously!

It can really vary. Also, many shippers will discount the second horse's shipping if you have two coming from the same farm. Recently, I had 2 foals shipped (same stall in the trailer) about 1,000 miles and it was $400 for the first horse, $200 for the second one.

The rates really can vary TREMENDOUSLY from shipper to shipper. When it comes to selecting a shipper, you are limited as to who can actually work the trip into their schedule, but I've been very happy when I'm able to use Sharrway (link). When I buy a new horse and find out that they can do the transport for me, it is a huge peace of mind!

Before I post this topic I had emailed one company, they said they weren't making any trips this way in the near future.

I did go to the place that chandab posted and i'm waiting to hear back.

Wow, Jill, 1,000 mile for $400. I thought it would be more.

The price quotes can vary incredibly. I have used Hauled Wright - they are very reasonable and do a great job. I have also used Montana Horse Transportation - they are also very good and have great rates. For instance - I had 3 fillies coming from the Reece sale - from Delaware to North Dakota. I had quotes as high as $2500 and as low as $1250 - all 3 were in the same stall on the trailer - so that is a big difference in price!!!!!

I recently had a quote from Montana Horse Transportation to transport a weanling colt from North Dakota to Ohio - that quote was for a little over $600 which I thought was very reasonable as I can't do the drive myself for that!!!!

Here are some email address:

: I think Sharrway's rates are very reasonable and they take EXCELLENT care of your horse. They've transported weanlings for me as well as adult horses and they're in the best of hands during the trip.

I know the rates vary, But can anyone tell me a round-about price it might be from Fort Worth TX, To Western CO? Thank you

One of the problems you will find this late in the year is that the shippers who come to Maine are done until Spring. YOur rates are going to be higher than those in the Southern and Central States. There are several shippers who include Maine in their routes during the spring summer and even fall but when its possible to run into snow they dont haul this way. I can understand that as a loaded horse trailer in snow is no fun. I did have one brought from Indiana in November one year but it was pricy.

I go get my own. :bgrin I've picked up for other people for gas costs too. This late in the year good luck getting anyone up to Maine.

I've had Hauled Wright up here twice to pick up horses I've sold and they've been very professional and taken excellent care of the horses. And they seem to be pretty reasonable too.

It's a little difficult for me to make a road trip especially that far and I don't have a trailer
