Should I show or should I not show

Tell me which horses should I show next year and in what kind of shows should I show them in as I'm in a wheele chair and is there any thing i need to do to get them ready to show like loss wieght or stuff like that.

My almost 4 year old stallion AMHR 34 1/4" (BELOW)



My 16 year old blue roan stallion easy to handle AMHA 28" (BELOW)



My 9 year old bay appaloosa mare AMHR 37" (BELOW)



My 10 year old paint mare AMHA/AMHR 33" but can she show as she has really messed up teeth as she was kicked when she was a foal.

These are not good pictures to judge by. All of them would need to be fitted up for showing.

What type of showing do you want to do? For example if you show in showmanship pick your smartest easiest to train horse. Just not sure how you would do with a wheelchair in showmanship? I bet with a lot of practice it could be done. I have seen many others show from wheel chairs but honestly I didn't pay attention to which classes they entered.

It will also depend on if you are showing AMHR or AMHA.

AMHR does offer pmc classes at certain shows and nationals. (Physically or mentally impaired classes)

I think ANY horse has the potential to be a show horse - you just have to find the right classes! Halter may not be their thing - but the performance classes are more fun in my opinion anyway! Some horses that may not do well in halter might do great in harness. Or even in halter obstacle, hunter/jumper, etc. As Kay said, if you are talking halter, these pictures would be very difficult to judge by (and I'm not the right person to do that anyway). The absolutely best thing to do is if you have never been to a show before, go and see the other horses and what they need to be able to do for each class. Then you will be able to make a better decision.

If you want to show, I say go for it! It will be up to you to figure out (with help) what classes interest you and which you will enjoy the most. I have shown against people in showmanship that were showing from a scooter, but not a wheelchair. It will take lots of practice, but that is what showmanship is all about. Halter obstacle is another class you might like. You will need to consider the footing in arenas or contact the show staff for their advice. Do you have a local mini club that offers non-rated shows? That would be another place to look for classes. Good luck!

Thanks no I'm not in a club yet as I'm still looking for one in my area. thanks, for all the help will try to get beter pics soon I would really like to show is halter classes and driving classes one i get a harness and cart.

The closest miniature horse club for you would be the San Antonio Area Miniature Horse club. We have a lot of practice days . We put on one show a year which is Both AMHA and AMHR, THe show is in July.

Hi, I am not in a wheel chair (right now) but I show in the PMC classes at Nationals every year and have had really great success. This year in Ada Oklahoma they offered the pmc jumping classes and I WALKED three horses thru the jumper and hunter classes. I loved it (even tho I was exhausted). The First Sunday is the Adult PMC day at Nationals and I will be showing in Halter, Showmanship, Country pleasure Driving, Western Country Pleasure Driving & Pleasure driving. Don't let your wheel chair slow you down, Go for it.
