We have a young neutered male kitty who doesn't feel good tonight, and I"m really out of my depth here. He seems feverish, gums are pale and he will only open his eyes a little. He's a little chubby anyway, but his belly looks like it's pretty full tonight. I don't see any obvious bites or swellings, but he sure acts like he feels badly. Don't guess I can give him banamine......anything safe for kitties till I can get him to the vet in the morning?

Thanks,

Jan

No banamine, aspirin or tylenol for kitty. All I would give is some antibiotics, but if you don't have anything on hand, obviously that's not an option. I've always got Chlor-Palm 250 on hand, & usually plain old penicillin that I can give by way of injection.

The full looking belly concerns me a lot--that's a huge warning sign of the wet form of FIP. I hope that isn't what your little guy has got.

Best of luck; I know he will hang in there for the night, & hopefully you can get him in to see the vet first thing in the morning. Please let me know later how he is doing & what the vet has to say!

A teeney tiny bit of naxel could help. Has he been throughly wormed? No antifreeze anywhere he could get to?

Yes, and for once I don't have anything on hand. Ran out of penicillin and just (thankfully) haven't needed any for the horses lately. Guess I'd better stock up again.

Kitty looks like he feels a wee bit better this morning, but he's going to the vet. Thanks for your responses.

What is FIP by the way?

Jan let us know how the kitty is when you get back.

How is your cat? I assume you have taken him to the vet by now --- hope he is ok and that it is not a blocked urinary tract.

Kitty is much better today. He was bright eyed this morning and got to stay home, as I had a puny gelding that took precedence. Kitty's "other mom" is a small animal vet, so I'll give her another call tonight and be sure we are okay. The gelding on the other hand has a bacterial infection.
