Anyone have a pic or idea to make a simple round pen? I need to be able to take it down from time to time.....

Snow fence or pallets maybe?

Cattle panels, you can bend them, or make an octagon shape. Wire tie together and use T posts to keep it there.

I think Marty used to do this and she said they don't even need staked down.

Do you need it to actually be fenced? Does it need to contain the horse for anything?

1 - The first "round pen" we had was simply logs on the ground. We didn't free lounge (or "round pen" our horses) - we rode, we ground drove or we lounged on a line and the "round pen" was in a fenced pasture. It was for sight references & focal points.

2 - A dressage arena is usually some type of rope or pvc arrangement. You could even just put up sand filled bottles to use as a reference.

3 - a rope enclosure - clothesline or marine yacht rope (the yellow kind) is easy to put up using just about any kind of post including the simple step in kind.

4 - a hot fence made into a round pen - can use step in fiberglass posts, steel posts or wood posts. Google "horse guard fencing" - excellent pics & instructions of how they recommend to build one. Easy to disassemble and move. A simple 1 or 2 wire enclosure can be made hot and will contain most (not all) horses for loose round penning...

5 - stock, goat/sheep, hog, horse or cattle panels (depending on the type, the height and number of horizontal steel pieces vary, which also changes the pricing. Horse panels are usually the most expensive) - I LOVE OURS!! We attach to 7-8' steel posts w/ wood posts to hang a steel gate on - not so easily movable.

6 - already made steel panels meant to be used for round pens. Many styles on the market in many sizes - including mini sizes. Panels as short or as long as you want - standard sizes are 10, 12 & 16' panels - in heights from 4.5 to 6'. Mini sizes are as "short" as 6' in length (EASY to move).

I buy corral panels made for round pens whenever they go on sale or I find them used. I have traded horses/cows and hay for panels too. I love them because they're movable. I love the idea of the heavy wire cattle/sheep/hog panels and t posts. Lots of people around here use those and really like them. You can use pallets, just tie them together with hay twine. You can get all of that stuff for free. Just be sure to check for nails or splinters. I have a bunch of temporary panels made out of those cute picket fence panels that they sell at lowes and home depot. I bought brackets made to screw to gates and hang to a post, bolted them to the ends on the top and bottom, then bought long bolts with nuts and washers to pin them together like you would a metal round pen. I bought them to bring to the fair and other agricultural events. They're sturdy but light weight enough to move around easily. I like Paula's idea of a dressage arena and visual reference. If you use a lunge line, you do not need a rail. I scavenged traffic cones, painted them white, stenciled letters on them and stuck silk flowers in the top. You can tie white clothesline rope around them to create a visual barrier to work off of, like the fancy chains they put on the show arenas. You can also buy those inexpensive rolls of welded wire garden fence and hammer the cheap t or u posts in the ground to tie the fence to. I use zip ties for these kinds of things. You can just untie the wire from the posts and roll it back up to move it. This may not work to turn horses out in because the wire is flimsy. I have tried the electric fence that looks like volly ball netting. It was hard to put up, and as it stretched out, i had to add posts to it to fix the sagging, but it did keep the ponies in. You could move that around if you needed to.

I saw something like this while driving and It was a great Idea. This image isn't what I was looking for, but if you have electric fence handy and star pickets you can make your own round pen using 2 lines of electric fence regarding your horse knows electric fences, up to you whether you turn the fence on, but personally I would leave it off to prevent accidents

. If you don't have any electric fence to spare you can use white string or rope to fool your horse into thinking its electric? I have never tried this but I would like to

Here is an image it was all I could find, but something like that but make it round?

Hope it helped.
