Skin Problem on one of my boys

To me, the untrained eye, It looks like fly bites, with would make sense being scabby. looks like the work of horse flys (if you have any out there) they get pretty big here, about an inch to an inch an a half.

I am thinking fly bites also, we do have horse flys and normally I don't see them around hardly at all but there has been one here the past few days that I've seen bugging the bigger horses so it could very well have been bothering him too.

Any chance he could have, or have had lice/flea's or some kind of biting insect on him?

I just clipped off a filly that has been turned out all winter (she was still in full winter coat - we're just coming into spring now) and she looks very similar, but was covered in lice as well! I felt so bad, as i never saw her itching or any sign of discomfort, so i had no idea! But now she is washed in a medicated shampoo to kill off the lice, and i will wash her in an oatmeal shampoo once a week until the sores clear up.
