Some of you may remember our “Disneyland boys” Hook and Smee

Back in 2006

Andrea and Disneyland in Anaheim CA helped CMHR get these guys out of a horrible situation. They named and fostered them for approximately 2 months bringing them back to health. Thank you also to Jennifer at Sweet Opal ranch for taking them in until we could get them to Stacy at Gypsy Winds Ranch. Stacy thank you for the months of fostering them.

Hook and Smee found their forever home in Sonoita, Arizona where they've been adopted by Laura Pawlak at "The Rainbow Ranch". We are very pleased as children with illnesses and handicaps will be helping and learning from these guys. Hook and Smee love children!!

Rest in peace!!

Laura called this am with the sad news that Smee passed away 12-25-09. Hook went down hill from there. The only places he would go was Smee's stall and the place where Smee laid down in the pasture and passed. Sad to say there was nothing they could do for Hooks grief. On January 1, 2010 Hook was out in the pasture during the day with the other horses. William went out to bring the horses in for the night feeding and found Hook laying down near where Smee passed. He had gone to join Smee over the Rainbow Bridge. Both passed away knowing they were loved and loved by the terminally ill and handicapped children that interacted with these boy's.

These guys had the most wonderful life with the Rainbow Ranch here in Sonoita AZ with Laura and her ranch caretaker William. The children that came to their ranch and their families will miss these two wonderful boys.

Please keep Laura, William and the campers of the Rainbow Ranch in your thoughts as they go thru the time of losing the “Disney Boy’s” Hook and Smee.

Oh My Gosh - if that isn't love, I don't know what is. What a bond they must have had for each other.

And people say that animals don't grieve....... <sigh> .... Bless their hearts. It's good to know that they left this plane being loved. What's even better is that they are even happier where they are and TOGETHER.

Thanks Gini.....for letting us know.

Thank you for sharing this story, Gini.

Rest in peace, little ones.

What a wonderful story...but sad. It is great that for a part of their lives they got to know what love was.

Of course I remember them...I am so sorry to hear the news...

I'm so sorry! What a great team they must have been! Poor Hook couldn't go on without his friend. Horses DO love and DO feel. I send hugs to all who loved them, and it sounds like many!

Bless them both

I'm glad they had some time with a nice family. Poor Hook's little heart literally broke.

Oh Gini, I remember them too and that is the saddest thing I've heard in a while- made me cry. At least the ends of their lives were together and loved and cared for. Thanks to EVERYONE that was involved in their rescue and care til the end. This is just too sad.... and yes, I do believe animals grieve. This just makes it obvious. RIP to them both. They are together still.

I remember them as well, and I do believe animals grieve for one another. RIP little Hook and Smee. That sure was true love that they had for one another. it brought tears to my eyes while I was reading about them. I am so glad they both found out what love is in the last few years of there lives.

Gini,

That is soooo sad - poor little horses - they certainly had a special love for each other.

Thanks for sharing their story - Hook and Smee certainly made an impact on a lot of lives.

I am glad they had a lot of happiness and love in their last years.

What a touching story. The way you describe it made me tear up as I got a good mental picture. I do remember Hook and Smee....and always will.

So very sad to hear of the passing of two of our wonderful rescue horses. It proves that the bond of friendship is so very tight that one did not want to live without the other and that grief can be so devestating. Run free Hook and Smee you will never be parted again. So glad that your later lives were filled with love, care and compassion and that you were truely enjoyed.

I have added pictures of these beautiful boys. I found them in my files.
