Hey Guys,

I am sorry for saying that breeding minis to small is cruel. I had a big misunderstanding, someone had told me when I was young that when people breed smaller miniatures the size of there insides stay the same size. Yesterday Gage told me the truth, I was very surprised but I guess it goes back to the saying 'Don't always believe what you hear'.

I am very sorry for saying that and I would like to thank Gage for eing such a good friend and telling me the truth or I would of thought that for the rest of my life.

Sorry once again, I feel terrible.

Regards

Charlie

Hey don't feel badly, none of us is perfect.

What seems to have happened in this case is you were told something with a "grain" of truth and it turned into something you believed to be true without exception.

What you might have heard is something relating to some dwarf miniature horses, and that is the fact that though the bodies on some of them are stunted, it seems that their internal organs are too large to fit into the frame and so they have problems w/their digestive tracts and their breathing, etc., but it is not even true of all dwarfs, and I know for sure it is not true of smaller minis. I think a well proportioned, healthy Miniature has everything pretty much in relation, size-wise, and so this is not a problem to be concerned about (i.e., if a 26" mare is well proportioned and normal in every way, and she should have a 24" foal (at maturity), chances are that foal would be perfectly fine and all its internal organs would be healthy and sized to fit him or her.)

We all have misunderstandings and misconceptions, and if any of us think we don't, we should go back to school anyway, we're all still learning, here.

You are quite mature to admit your misunderstanding and ask forgiveness, though it's not really necessary.

The good thing about your comment is that you learned the truth because of it.

As for misconceptions...

When the AMHA convention was in Portland, Keith and I played the music for the river cruise. While setting up, I overheard two of the ship's employees discussing miniature horses. One fellow said, in his most knowledgeable tone of voice:

"Did you know that they're breeding them so small these days that they can't even stand -- they have to be carried."

They were in a back room, so I couldn't correct them, but it just goes to show what "wisdom" is out there!!

At Christmas we took two of our minis to a party at the request of the organizer. As the children and parents were oooohing and ahhhhhing over them one of the adults said in a very authoritive voice: Those are miniatures, not Shetlands, Shetlands are dwarfs. I just cringed, shook my head and walked off.

BTW Susanne and hubby did a fine job playing on the cruise.

Charlie, We all make mistakes and ...when we are mature enough to admit it , we grow.... you were just given some wrong information thats all... It was very mature of you to come and say that! You are growing!
