I've just moved up to prelim with my mini in CDEs, and I am wondering how everyone goes about training the stretching trot circle? When I just give my reins, my boy puts his neck level with his withers and lengthens over his topline, but he doesn't seek the bit and drop his head. Just wondering if anyone has any helpful training tips they'd be willing to share.

Generally speaking if your horse is not seeking contact with bit then he's not truly on the bit To get there takes a lot of transitions(up, down, and within gaits), changes of bend, and an incredible number of half halts. For driving horses I find it easier to do this, especially in the beginning, while line driving.

I have to agree with Barefootin. With my eventing horses after being collected and they had to do a "long and low" walk or trot their heads would drop right down as soon as I gave the reins. It takes a lot of practice, if the horse does not give its head then gather your contact up and try again. Half halts are your best friend
