I try to stick with this too. From the nasty, mean spirited and WRONG rumors that eventually found their way back to me about Mia and Zac, I don't put it past some people to spread ANYTHING at all, regardless of how stupid, mean or just plain DUMB it may be....a few people in this industry lost any respect I had for them, despite knowing them for almost 20 years

For those who listened to those few people and repeated what they said, I wish they had followed that rule...

I agree with you Laura....It is sad that some people have nothing better to do than spread lies/rumors.....or they tend to add to the story.....I know there are always two sides to every story, I always try to remember that when I hear something. I know I have an X-friend..that likes to spread rumors about me, like they have nothing better to do than to talk about someone that has nothing to do with them anymore, I guess it is up to the people hearing the rumors to make up their minds, But I do think some people are influenced when they hear stuff about someone they don't know.

Well my Mom (bless her) NEVER said a bad thing about people (she said if you could not say something good about a person it was best to shut your trap and let people form their own opinion) I have always found in dealing with so called friends that Jealousy & Envy play a huge part in how true friendships develop or disappear. Most people that spread lies and rumors embellish alot of what they say. The truth is usually somewhere in between. Most folks that LOVE to continue to spread lies and pure crap are unhappy with their OWN lives and want to drag their FRIENDS down to their poor pitiful levels. IMOP... Now you know where "GET A LIFE" came from! p.s. Michele...hope your babies are doing fine!

I always listen to both sides and if I can't figure it out, I simply stay out of it.

I was taught to show others you have integrity, compassion and manners. They will form their own opinion of me from that and only if I felt it was worth fighting for, should I stand up and fight back.

Do I care what others think of me? Of course I do, I am a human being. I get hurt easily, but even through the tears I try and figure out the why before fighting back.

This! ^^ It apparently makes some people feel better about themselves to run down other people.

I don't listen to rumors, and I don't talk about people (unless it's something good). I would rather think the best of others, and you know what-- when you do, you SEE the best of people.

I've had my heart broken an awful lot, but I still keep putting it out there, because feeling the love and goodness that others have to offer is worth it.

I really only believe my closest friends. I have VERY few very close friends (which I can count on 1 hand). So I know I can trust those closest to me . Other than that, I try not to make a judgement before I hear both sides. Generally stay out of it. But I do warn other friends if I'd had a bad dealing with someone. Don't want them in the same situation as I was in. I would feel partly responsible if they got screwed and I did nothing about it. Friends should stick by one another. And I've heard rumors. How can you not in a competative horse world???

Depends on how thick your skin is on how you let them affect you.

Other than the "be careful who you trust" and "love many trust few" approach, there is also human nature to consider. Human nature, moods, bad days--all come into play on a view of events. For example, hold up a picture to a room full of people for a moment and then take it down and ask each of them to describe the picture...you will have MANY different stories based on each persons view, perspective and mood. Do the same with a 5 minute video clip, a song, a story...each person will see or hear something a bit different and sometimes other things that are going on in their lives can come into play in their views. If someone is having a bad day, they might see more that is negative, if they are sad, they might see something more disheartening and if they are having a wonderful day they might see things as all rosy. Human nature isn't always black and white. With that same exercise above, you can take it a step farther and see how the stories change as people discuss it with others and that gets passed along...all from an initial thing that was EXACTLY the same.
