Woohoo!!! We got our tax refund on Friday and I paid off the very last of our credit card debt this morning!!!! We've been in credit counseling for 3 years now, started with over $15,000 and I just paid off the remaining $5000 today!! Woohoo!!! :aktion033: Doing the happy dance!!! :new_multi: :new_multi:

I have to say, I HATED having that debt!!! Almost all of it was due to my hubby having sporatic work during a 3 year period several years ago and we had to pay our mortgage with credit cards, no other option at the time. Not like we were living above our means or anything (like some of my relatives who have much higher credit card debt

: ).

I'm just happy that we got a $6000 refund to help eliminate it in full this year! Now we are on the road to repairing our credit and I'm soooooo very thrilled!! Of course, this was the last year we'll be getting a refund since I'm going to be self-employed this year and have to pay hefty taxes, but I was sure happy to get it this one last time!!!

Well, for the last 5 years or so, we have gotten back between $5000-6500 each year, so it was a GOOD thing! LOL!!

Kathy....if you are going to be self employed next year, be sure you have a really good accountant because I would think you will have all sorts of business related write offs - most self employed people do.

We have to get off our duffs here and get ours filed. We usually get about that same amount back and I too will be using a lot of it to pay off credit cards and our RE taxes.

congrats - what a weight lifted off your shoulders to not have those credit cards. I did my taxes last night and am getting $8000 back, but it's basically already spent. I wish I could use it to pay off some bills, but got other things to fix - wrecked car, a balance due on a boat (hubby). I will have a little left, so do plan to pay off a couple small credit cards, but I sure wish I didn't have to pay for that car!

While you are self employed, make quarterly estimated tax payments if you think that you'll owe - this will be so much easier than trying to come up with a large sum at end of year if you owe.

I use turbotax deluxe and I love it....anyone can do their own taxes with that, I highly recomend it. I don't own my own business but do itemize for job expenses, etc. and own a home and turbotax walks you right through it. It's very easy. My mom paid $200 to have her taxes done (she's in another state or I would of done them for her), her refund was $350. Turbotax cost around $40 and you can file electronically for free and get your refund in as little as ten days. It only took me around 2 hours to do it, and I was moving slow.

Congrats again on your way to financial freedom!
