Thanks for opening your barns!

[Little Wee Horse Farm]

I just wanted to post a thank you to everyone for letting us all into your barns, foaling stalls, paddocks, or whatever to see your wonderful new babies. With our retirement, we have just two mares to sell yet & for the first time since 1992, will not have any new little ones bouncing around here this spring.

It's very sad for me, but I know, physically I can't do it any more. I'm almost glad there won't be any because I just don't have the stamina that having foals around can demand. But, I'd like to tell you that seeing photos of your beautiful babies is a great booster for me. Foaling time was always like Christmas. Always a surprise when each gift was opened.

They are all so cute, so sweet, and the most wonderful moment is when that mare reaches back & touches noses with her long-awaited baby. And they vocally say hello. Anyway, just want to say thanks & congratulations to you all. The future of the breed is in good hands.

I would like to add my thanks too, to all who share their photos, web cams, and foaling experiences. I am learning so much just from looking at other people's new foals. Besides the fact they are just so darned cute! We are expecting our first in late June and I am so glad I have this opportunity to see the variation in what they look like as newborns! You are providing education as well as entertainment. I don't always have time for a comment, but your photos are very much appreciated.

Want to add a second to that! You know, as long as I've been on the board seeing the foals each year, and then watching them progress in pictures, and then seeing their babies, some in person and some in pictures is a wonderful experience.

Yes I too, will tip my hat off to you people that post all these pics of your new foals, I'm new to this board, but have been reading here for a few days now, and really enjoy these, ooohhh sooo cute faces. How could anyone sell these little darlings!!

Glad you are enjoying seeing them all Karen. I know many of us will be in the same boat as you at some point, myself included, and as hard as it will be to say good bye to them, at least we can "share" in them here.

Also, I have to say, as hard as it is to make a decision such as you have, I wish more people would do that....KNOW their capabilities and limitations, and do what needs to be done for the sake of their horses, rather than keeping them and not being able to care for them as they should be cared for, so kudos to you!

Kudos to you for making the right decison all the way around and not letting your emotions cloud things to the detriment of your horses, your health, etc.

I'd like to add that if you were near me, you'd be welcome to come enjoy the babies...I offer the same "service" to anyone that hasn't had or doesn't have foals and misses them. I am lucky to be able to have one or two a year, and they really enjoy attention, and are better for it.

We are having 5 foals this year which will more than keep us busy and it is so hard to sell them but I had to know before starting this we would have to sell most.

Karen you made a hard decision and we are thrilled to have one of the mares you sold, enjoy your retirement and live the experiences through all of us, we will all be there one day.

But I still so love seeing everyones foals and barns and experiences too

Aw, gees, thanks everybody......those sure were unexpected kudos!! I do believe it was my responsibility to see these beloved horses went to proper & loving homes. I didn't want my sons to have to make decisions for me while I was in a hospital bed -- Oh, I'm certainly not at the hospital bed point yet -- but took advance action so that it never comes to that. It's always been about the horses. In my heart, it always will be. My sons have told me: "Mom, you're doing the adult thing." How novel .......I've always done the heart thing! I must be growing up!

So, again, I thank you for posting news & pictures of your little ones. I will be relying pretty heavily on Joanie at CJMM & Lisa at Candlelite to make sure I have soft little foal noses to nuzzle. I do miss those babies & all of you make it easier. Thanks again...............

We are here for you also Karen ...with more foals soon to arrive from your boy..."Little Wee Lord of the Ring" and a few more others yet to come, and our first offical Monte Carlo's foal being a LOUD black leopard appy filly that ended up being a keeper after she stole my heart and she will be hitting the show ring late this summer and off to Nationals in Futurity class. You will always be welcome at our farm here Karen even though we are not close to where you live by far.
