I was wondering, what's the best book you've ever read? I mean excluding the Bible for those who would say that's the best book they've ever read... What's the book you most enjoyed reading??? Try and just pick one

My favorite is The Stand by Stephen King.

I think recently it would have to be a booke entitled "Into the Wilderness". Forget who the author is tho. I enjoy the historical fiction novels. Reading about the settlers and the pioneers and how they endured the ardous and trecherous journey across the plains to settle the west.

I loved The Stand too and have read it a couple of times. My newest favorite is Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood. Just finished that last week and LOVED it!!! It is set in the south (LA) and I was brought up NC. It brought back alot of memories of my mother. I totally bawled at the end.

A few of my favorites:

Flowers for Algernon (Daniel Keyes)

The Stand (discussed previously)

Anne McCaffrey's Pern Series

Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar and related series (Last Herald Mage etc..)

Atlas Shrugged (Ann Rand)

A book I am looking forward to reading is: The Book of Fate (Brad Meltzer) I heard about it on NPR this week and it sounds very very good-- life after being the President of the US - a thriller.

I, too, loved The Stand by Stephen King.

Another favorite is Hanta Yo (can't remember the author's name). It's an amazing and in-depth book about Sioux native americans.

I also enjoyed the Red Tent.

Is Hanta Yo by Ruth Beebe Hill ? looked it up on Amazon.com -- sounds interesting - if its the same book I will order it to read.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Sentimentally it is the Thoroughbred series by Joanna Campbell. It was my favourite series for years. I also loved the Black Stallion series.

As an adult, my favourites are the Clan of the Cave Bear series by Jean Auel and Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon.

Weird...I just realized that every single one of my favourites are series. I LOVE being able to come back and find out more about the character's I love.

The Pern series is pretty good too. I love historical and science fiction/fantasy. The Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind is one I've read a few times.

I would have to say Skeleton Crew by Stephen King and then Misery by him as well. There are a couple by Jeffrey Deaver that are scary and I like reall well but can't remember their names right now.

I read so much and such a variety that it is really hard to pin-point one book! As a child I loved all the Walter Farley books(of course!), and I still remember a book called Dark Sunshine that I read over and over as a child.

I've gone through phases as an adult.....Koontz, Stephen King, Tom Clancy. Now I'm into the crime/action stuff. I love Jeffery Deaver, John Sanford, Susanne Brockman, Iris Johanson, Nevada Barr. Loved the Harry Potter series. Nora Roberts/JD Robb are favorites too. Too many others to write!

One of my all time favorite, laugh out loud and roll on the floor funny, series of books are the One for the money, 2 for the dough, etc of Janet Evanovich.

See.......no way I could just name one!! I'll check back to this thread though.....would love to find a new author to love!

I loved The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher, and Circle of Friends by Maeve Binchy, I enjoy anything by those two authors. I also read Robert Ludlum's novels.

My childhood favourite was Misty of Chincoteague.

:aktion033: Love this topic, I have so many favourites, I admit I am a bookaholic :bgrin

My favourite authors are Dick Francis (actually got to meet him once a real thrill for me), Catherine Cookson and Maeve Binchy. Also loved the Outlander series - Diana Gabaldon, Clan of the Cave Bears series - Jean Auel, te Henry Doyle books, The Commitments, The Snapper, The Van and a Star called Henry.

As a child loved the Jill books and Black Beauty. My current favourite book since we moved here 5 years ago is Storey's Basic Country Skills by John and Martha Storey - gives you all sorts of info about living in the country and how to grow, preserve, build, raise livestock etc., etc. It is a really neat book. Better stop or I will be writing a book myself :bgrin :saludando:

I really enjoyed Jimmy Buffett's "A Pirate Looks at Fifty" and his other book "Tales from Margarittaville". I haven't read "Salty Piece of Land" yet.

Wicked by Gregory Maguire

Gets you thinking. It is possible to like some one you grew up thinking was evil.

Little Women, Gone with the Wind, Dances with wolves, Horse Whisperer, these I have read more than once.

I have a few:

The Color Purple by Alice Walker

The Five People you Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom
