The Stand

The Little House Books by Laura Ingalls Wilder

The Chronicles of Narnia

I have read them all quite a few times.

Sad to say, I can't read much anymore. The fibro has affected me so that if I try to read anything like a novel, the words start to swim around the page and smash together and I get all confused and can't get past the first paragraph.

Just little blubs like on the forum and captions in magazines and such.

This is fun "hearing" what you all like to read! I don't have a lot of time to read for fun these days (working on my CFP), but it's one of my favorite pastimes.

Sharon -- can you listen to books on tape or CD? I have gotten tons of unabridged audio books over the years from eBay at really good prices. One of my "ahhhh... heaven" feelings is to lay down and listen to a book. Only problem is it usually puts me to sleep!!!

The one book I have at least once a year since it came out is Fith Sacred Thing by Starhawk. I've read all of the Walter Farleys and most of the Albert Payson Therhunes {Lad a Dog etc.}

:aktion033: If you like Cromwell you will ost likely like Kathy Reisch her books are what Bones is based on.

I think my favorite books are the Patricia Cromwell's "Kay Scarpeta" stories. I love the realizm she portrays in them.

I really enjoyed Jimmy Buffett's "A Pirate Looks at Fifty" and his other book "Tales from Margarittaville". I haven't read "Salty Piece of Land" yet.

How could I forget the "Jill" books??

Anyone read the "Golden Stallion" books???

I haven't read "the Taking" is it new??

Check out Audible.com. YOu can download novels and burn to CD. I fyou have a compatible MP3 player, you can download directly to that. I love that site. You can get a book for $13 or less!

: But my favorite that really stands out in my mind is "Roots" It was a great book...I was 13-14 yrs old at the time and I thought NO way was I going to read that BIG book....but it was a breeze...couldn't put it down.

If you love dogs you have to read Marley and Me. I just finished it and it was truly one of the best books i have ever read! As soon as my husband gets done with it, I am going to read it again. I encouraged my husband to read it and he didnt really want to but i have noticed he is spending alot of time each evening reading it!

I read that in 6th grade and also coulnd't put it down. But in 8th Grade I did a book report on "Roots" and didn't have to read it again..LOL

"The Stand" is also one of my faves and also any Terry Pratchett book. I laugh out loud reading those :aktion033:

Jill, this is EERIE...when I saw the thread title, I thought about it-and the book that came FIRST to my mind was 'The Stand'--before I ever opened the thread!!

However, it is hard to say only one-I LOVE to read, so have read lots of books-loved the Black Stallion books, the Thunderhead/Flicka books, Marguerite Henry's, etc.-as well as Nancy Drew and the Little Women books-among others-as a kid. Agree with Kay on 'The Green Mile', along with many others mentioned--and, I really enjoyed the Harry Potter books, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, too. So many good books, so little time!!

Great thread!!

(Can you tell? It is a dreary, drippy day, so I am stuck in the house-so computer, here I come!! I *should*be out in the barn unloading and stacking the rest of a load of hay, but am procrastinating....(she says with a grin!)-am just glad I went ahead and got the hay, as it is being VERY hard to find, here, and getting harder every SECOND....) The noontime news is on; forecaster just said the Edgewood high would be 70--HA! It is after noon, and 52 degrees...if this keeps up, I will need to BUILD A FIRE tonight....dang strange weather. Apologies for the trip off-topic; just venting a bit!

Without a doubt, my favorites are The Dark Tower books, by Stephen King.

However, I highly suggest everyone here read "Modoc" . Fantastic book :aktion033:

I like series books too. I have read the Spanish Bit series several times and it was pretty interesting. I also read all of the Left Behind Series. I actually read a wide variety of books. I might read something totally off the wall stupid then non fiction next. I hate to think about what I am going to do with all these books when we start moving. I'm sure going to have to make some decisions on what to sell and what to keep, I have quite a collection. I come from a large family of readers and my hubby reads too. We pass books from family member to family member until everybody has read them.

I go through spells where I read alot and then don't read for months. I haven't been reading in a while. I tend to like books by David Baldacci, John Grisham. I'm not much into Stephen King type stuff. Love stories...no way. The last book I read was called "My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Picoult. Not the normal kind of stuff I read, but it was fantastic. I highly recomend it.

This is fun

How ironic is it that I seem to be the only one who does not know what the "Jill Books" are??? Can someone enlighten me?

The Stand is just amazing. I read it several times, both versions, and saw the mini series 2x. Right after 9/11/01, I didn't like the book nearly as much as I had previously. I kept thinking about it, and thinking something like that could really, truly happen.

The Jill series of books were set in England and were about the adventures of a little girl called Jill who had ponies and helped at the local riding stable. The name of the author escapes me (so long ago when I read them, nearly 40 years but who is counting lol) They were great fun to escape into on a foggy, wet English day.
