I have decided to part with my dogs. However I am not pushing them and will be picky where they go. I feel it is best for them, when I work graves and trying to go to school, even thou everybody thinks I wont make it at what I wanna be. Well the neighbors want Jack.

Now there is good in bad in this.

I know they would take care of him and he would have lots of attention.

The bads out weight the good.

I had to rescue there begal they were letting run lose tonight. She was across the road behind the neighbors house barking up a storm. Suprised they havent just brought her to the pound by now. She almost got hit by a car when she came running to me. She is a very timmed dog as well so it wasnt easy to catch her.

I just couldnt ever put Jack or Mitzy in a home where they would run lose out side(especially in town). Jack has never been off of his leash outside. Mainly do to the fact we are still working on the "No you cant eat that bird" deal. Plus he is so small to let run at my aunts im afraid the horses might want to play with him a little to much.

That said, Jack can not go to them.

Good luck finding good homes for your dogs, Ashley. I've had to rehome my share of furry little ones and know it isn't an easy thing to do. Also, I'm not sure who thinks you won't be successful in what you want to do, but I wouldn't put too much stock into what "they" think. The only way you'll ever succeed at something is to try and if you fail, that's just a part of life and learning.

Good luck Ashley.....the only way you are going to fail is if you don't try........ and after reading quite a few of your posts, I have to say you seem to be a very determined girl.

I wish you all the best luck and I applaud you for taking the risk of doing something to give yourself a career, that is a very powerful thing.

I know my hubby sent a note to you on the post about being a police officer, I hope you got to see it, I think it's always nice to get the opinion of the person that does the actual job and I know that law enforcement varies between state, county and city, but it's still a very noble profession.

Just know that for all the people that think you can't do it, there are probably double the number of people that think YOU CAN do it...and trust me, I know that you have the support of your "forum family"......

I am sure you are going to miss your dogs, and I think it's very, very wise of you to not let the neighbors have Jack, it sounds like they shouldn't have any dogs. Ok, I am off my soapbox now...good luck to you, I wish you all the best in your endeavors!! :bgrin

Yep, I got to see it. There is only one thing I am trying to find out now is what the pay is roughly.

My moms BF's boss used to be a cop here in town, and said if I wanted to know more to come talk to him, he will fill me in. SO I will have to see what moms bf is doing some weekend to take me there to have a chat.

This is something I really really wanna do and have always wanted since I was in school. Like I said, I might not make it, but like you and others said, I wont know until I try. If I fail, at least I can say I failed trying, and not for lack of.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Well, I can tell you that Ken but I will have to PM that to you, it doesn't seem quite right to post it on a public forum, I will say that It's pretty decent here, but I will PM you. As you could tell by his post, he loves his job. I guess I have never given it a lot of thought if I liked him being a police officer or not, my Dad was a city police officer for 32 years, so since I grew up with one, it didn't make it a big deal. I do wish he would get more sleep sometimes, because he is also on their "Dive Team" which means he is on call for rescuing/recovering bodies etc from all types of water hazards. He is also one of their Hostage Negotiators (sp) and he is also one of the lead people on their Search & Rescue Squad, so he is on call basically all of the time unless we are out of state. I don't like being woke up by dispatch or someone else at all odds of the early morning, because then I can't sleep.....but I always manage to remember that when he gets called out for something, someone else is having a much worse time than me not sleeping.

I do get a little tired of the rotating shifts, it's not so much the shifts, but their days off change every darn week.

When all is said and done I can honestly say I am very proud of what he does and since I know he loves his job, that is what is most important. I say if you have the drive and ambition, you will make it, and like I said you have the support of your forum family. You can always e-mail myself or Ken we would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have, just PM me and I can get the questions to him, etc.

So you decided? - Police officer? That's great.

Was the beagle incident tonight a one time thing? If so, then yes they were irresponsible, but occasionally stuff like this happens no matter how hard you try to watch them. If they let the beagle actually "run", then absolutely not, I don't blame you for not wanting Jack to go there.

Good luck - It sucks you have to give up your dogs. You'll do great!

You should do some "ride alongs" with the local cops and also ask if you can come in to the station for an "informational interview" to talk about the career choice. Both should be helpful.

This is something I can picture being right for you though I don't know exactly how to explain why.

Maybe because you've been so caring and insightful when I've needed help with understanding issues with our older foster children we've had. Our new foster daughter was talking to me today about the her experiences with the police ( it was positive) how caring and concerned they were and understanding of the actual situation. They had a profound effect on how she is dealing with things now and I think she will be just fine.

Ashley, I'm sorry you have to give up your dogs. I know how much you love them. But, it's great news you are going to go to school. I do not know why "everyone" would think you won't make it. Look how you have worked your demanding job! From what I know of you, I think you are dedicated to doing the things you feel are important and if that's how you feel about advancing your education, I don't doubt you will get it done!
