I'm going to try this today! I have 2 that are either bred or need a major diet & exercise plan and 2 that I'm just not sure about!

Do the mares need to be past a certain point in their pregnancy or does it matter?
I doubt that it has anything to do with it. But then again, we don't know exactly why this works. Maybe it's picking up on the heart beat which might create some sort of magnetic field? I honestly don't know.

[SIZE=12pt]OK....stupid question

Can you do this without taking their blankets off :DOH!

I would say that since it is predicting through momma's body that a blankie wouldn't make a difference! lol

Unless the blankie was made of lead! lol

I've not done the test before but I do remember my grandmother doing it to my sister.. lol I did RUN out and test my little girl who's due to foal sometime between jan 25 and feb 25 and my results are HUGE round circles...

hoping for that filly!!!

I did the test! We got circles!! I don't care what it is, I'm just hoping she's pregnant!!!!! I'm going to do the weefoal, but have to wait until the end of February as she would only be 81 days today! So do you think this means she IS in foal?????

That is just wild how the ring starts moving! I couldn't believe it! And I'm steady as a rock! How exciting!!!

I just went out and tested the girls that would let me. First I did a mare that I know is NOT pregnant and no movement, then I tested my older mare and it said colt and my second mare who I am not sure is pregnant or just fat and it said filly. Now if she is pregnant then I am stressed because she would be due to foal in late february or early march and I am not set up for that. I only have run ins here. And we will have ALOT of snow a cold temps by then. I will watch her closely.

ETA My mare that I wasn't sure was pregnant had a filly like the ring test said. I will update on the other mare when she foals.

and on the first one it said colt and on the second one we weren't able to see which way it was going to go, mare wasn't cooperating

. We'll give it another try on a different day.

We did the ring test last year and it was right I had two foals ans this year we did it again and it is saying I should have two girls and the other I think was a boy. My mom was shown this by a draft horse breeder and it seems to work well. I told a friend of mine and we are going to keep track of the perdictions and see if it is right!

I told my husband about doing this yesterday and now he thinks I am crazy! Oh well, I hope it works so I can show him up! lol.

I tried this out yesterday. I have a mare I bred and the vet is coming out next week to test her. So we'll see. I got small tight circles one time, then nothing, then side to side. lol So I don't think it knows what it wants. There wasn't a ton of movement, so I've got my fingures crossed in there being a foal at all.

[SIZE=12pt]I tried it

Too much fun! I did it with a piece of thread and my sweeties wedding ring. I had wee foal tested all three mares and the two who are in foal made big round circles
default_aktion033.gif
and the mare who is open had no movement at all. This is just too weird

I've always heard of people doing this but I've never tried it before, it really is amazing

I'm going to get Bill to try it too, since he just snickered when I told him about it

snowing and cold here!

Hi all. I thought it might be fun to add to this post what your mares actually had in comparison to what the ring said. I already updated on my one mare and am waiting on the other to foal in July.

Well our 3 'fillies' turned out to be open mares
default_no.gif
So we're just have the two mares that ring tested colts, and so far one it right, we got a black pinto colt! Waiting on the last one and I have a feeling that ones a colt too!

I guess I should say that my mare that I wasn't sure was pregnant said a filly and that is what she had. The other mare that I tested said colt and that is what she has had both times for me so we will see in July. Sorry your "filly" mares were open. maybe next year? Good luck with your next foal.

So far, out of 2 "fillies" I've had one. I'm still waiting on the next one to make her debute!

We bred 7 mares none of which have foaled yet. I did the ring test on all of them today and here are the results:

Rose - not pregnant and doesn't look to be

Suzie - not pregnant and doesn't look to be

Amber - filly doesn't really look pregnant just a bit potty due in July

Smore - colt (overdue by almost a month)

Missy - filly (slightly overdue)

Velvet - filly doesn't really look pregnant just a bit potty due in July

Lady - colt doesn't look pregnant but isn't due till end of August

In all cases it seemed to be quite definite in the type of movement or lack of. I will post the actual results once I have them! I wonder if it is possible that a mare that WAS pregnant with a foal and lost it could still show a result that would be what WAS in there. Funny thing: my friend Bob tried out the test on a couple of my mares and got no results whatsoever really after I got definite movement.

I tested 3 of my mares in mid winter with the following results

Lady-- Side to side (colt) had a filly April 6

Bucky -- circles (filly) due end of May

Tammy -- no movement (open) would be due May 25

I tried a different test this year with the ring. I held it over a mare I was in the process of breeding, the day before she went out of heat. I was hand breeding her so I know the last time she was bred. The ring never moved. I waited on week and when I brought my other two mares that are being bred to an outside stallion, home, I tried it on all three. All three were doing huge circles including the one I did the week before. One was ultraounded today to be 19 days, I am taking the other two in two weeks to have ultrasounds done on them as well. That will check the first part, are they in foal. At least since it said they were all having fillies I should be able to remember that for next year.

I am two for two! One filly and one colt- the ring test was right! lol
