Ugh! Yuck! When will it stop? If trees didn't go down with the weight of the snow now we get steady heavy rain, flooding and high wind gusts. The season of cover and duck. Today my kids stay in, I will pull blankets and let their skin breathe as it won't be cold. As I trudge thru the mud and yuck to get their food to them and come back in totally soaked. Me the silly person who doesn't own rain gear.

Finally today I will go get daughter and her hubby their Xmas gift. A new microwave. They have one of the great huge dinosaurs that they use. Then on to good ole Ace Hardware to get my gift the shop vac with the 18ft hose so I can clean these critters up. I will let everyone know what I think of it. It will also be useful for other types of cleaning around the place. Especially the wet vac during this awful wet water should my basement decide to flood as in previous years.

Hope everyone else in this area is away from the waterways that flood.

Gosh Marie its a walk in the park over here compared to what you guys are going through. You've really had a mess up there and I feel for you.

My complaint is all this rain that saturated the ground. I have standing water on top of mud in some of my fields with no dry place for them to stand, so everyone has mostly been hanging around the barnyard now for a couple of weeks eating hay. I'm now getting a couple good days of sunshine will hopefully get some of this to dry up but I have a bad feeling that my pasture grass will be non-exsistant now come springtime. At the moment its 33 degrees and rising and sunny.

Good luck and send pics and a report on the shop vac. Mine makes way too much noise and I'm looking for one that is a whole lot more quiet.

Our snow is melted but it is raining and raining and raining. The metal barn roof has condensation on it and it is dripping everywhere. So I need to use my last two orchard grass hay bales before they mold.

Horses look like crap. BUT later I want to go out and blow them off with my little show vac. LOVE that thing!!!!! I think you will too. If you go to the hardware store get one of those paper mouth masks, and use glasses or ever sun glasses while you do it. Dust hair and dander FLY, and it doesn't taste very good!!!!

It snowed again here last night. A LOT. It's beautiful...

We got the huge melt off too......over here on the East side of the Cascades. Had quite a bit of standing water and have the mud.......

Today we got some horrendous high wind gusts. Larry thinks it's the worst wind we've ever had and we've handled 75 mph gusts without a problem.

We haven't established all the damage yet, but so far we know that two trees are down......probably more in the upper pasture. Our hay shed is damaged, and Brianna's trampoline was picked up and blew sideways against the barn, so its bent up.

Things have calmed down, so we were able to move the trampoline and anchor it down with some old tires. Not sure what we're going to do about the hay shed........

I went out and assessed the big Juniper that fell in Jeffie's and Betty's area. They are fine, just shook up. And the tree just missed a fence. Guess we have some firewood for next year.

The snow melt has been very slow here. However, today it got up to

47 degrees for a time and is it ever great to see green again.

Those dollops of snows left hopefully will soon be things of the past.

The horses are enjoying it and have romped more today than in the

past 3 weeks.

The high winds forecast haven't reached us even though they are still

in the forecast. In fact the forecast rain hasn't been much, today either.

My goal for the near future is to see the 'weather alerts' leave the forecast

page of the weather report.

I saw on the Farmer's Almanac back a few months ago that the Pacific NW

is 'supposed' to have a warmer/dryer February. I can hardly wait, not even

going to hex it by going in to check if they changed that outlook.

Only half of our snow melted before we got 3" of fresh snow last night. Wet sticky snow.

Power has been flickering off and on. DH is going to try to make it to work,, can't afford him taking any more days off. This area is just a mess.

Neighbors will be getting together this weekend to finish clearing a large number of trees still partly on our road. Was hoping to get that ugly shed repaired before we had any more snow. Have to be able to get down one side of the hay fields partly into the woods to get the replacement log. Snow did not clear up enough for me to get out there, even with Maggie dragging that log up.

Sigh ~~~ this winter is a little more interesting than I like.

As I said in title there is now widespread flooding. A house had a mudslide come thru it went right thru the garage and pushed an SUV right on thru it's door people were injured and rushed to the hospital. They had to bust out a window to escape. There are multiple mudslides and rivers and streams overflowing their banks. Trees are down all over the NW knocking out power to homes again. In higher elevations it has snowed again. I'm oh so ready for spring and winter has just begun. I really really hate this time of year.

I hope everyone is safe. I have a message into Erin of Mooreacres waiting for her to report in from up on the hill.

She spent New Years eve with us and went back home yesterday. She still can't drive out but my daughter was able to go pick her up and get her back home.

Still waiting for Susanne to check in also.

We had 2" of snow this morning...It melted, but that is not such a good thing....water, water everywhere!! *sigh* I am tired of winter already and it has only just begun!

(yes, I'd like some cheese with my whine! LOL! )

No more snowfall here, the weather's actually been pretty decent. Wet and dark of course, but no excessive rain/wind/snow/sleet or other annoyances. My road is even clear for once! The sidewalks are still plowed snow up to my thighs, but the road itself is clear. Good thoughts coming for the rest of you that things will settle down a bit.

Linda and Leia,, you are both sooooo lucky!

Theia and Maggie have both been shivering even in their old horsey clothes. But Thank goodness UPS has finally made it up here and their Polar tough blankets came in! Yes!!! International orange and hot pink colors of course... would not loose them in the snow with that. Might take photos tomorrow, as it is snowing right now.

If anyone is interested.. these folks have them in stock.

added: sizing on these blankets do run small,, so order a size or two larger. Example... Maggie wears a size 42" Horses in black, in the Polar tough, she wears a size 48".

It was STILL snowing on and off this afternoon here in Boring! I got to go to work today for the first time this week (partly was a planned vacation anyway), and things are looking up for January business from the way today has gone. Hallelujah!!!

At home, I walked the back part of the property and we have about 2 acres that are so wet and mushy that a natural drainage ditch has formed and is running across and into the neighbor's side. Hope this means we'll have less rain this winter than usual, because we sure will not have a water shortage.

Speaking of mudslides, there is one just east of us here, blocking the highway, that was 20 feet deep and the length of a football field. What a mess. No one was hurt though in the report I read.

DH came home today and said there is a slide on Tide Creek rd...half the road blocked and a tree hanging over the road way. No one working on it of course. sigh ~~

We've had a lot of snowmelt, but there's still a fair amount remaining -- plus 2-3 new inches that fell last night.

We're fortunate as to the other elements...we're high above the flooding (at 750+ feet, it would take a Biblical flood), we have a great deal of vegetation on the gentle slope above us preventing (hopefully) mudflow, and we're strangely protected from most winds. Although strong winds were forecast for this area, we didn't even lose any small branches. Whew...knock on wood...

We FINALLY made it back into polite society (polite if you excuse us, I suppose), shopped for Christmas on New Years Eve (one-stop shopping -- Yay Cost Plus!) and celebrated Christmas with my family on New Years Day.

Interestingly enough, my mother's place on a hillstop in southeast Portland/Clackamas (Mt. Scott), is higher in elevation than we are, and yet they had no snow left at all. Guess we're just lucky, lol...
