My name is C J. I am a 5 year old short hair mixed breed brindle dog of medium size; most people would call me a mutt. I'm not very pretty, but I had a great personality. It appears that I am a little bit down on my luck. I guess I've had a very hard life for a young dog.
I remember being a pup and living in a nice big house with many children to play with. I'm hyper and I loved to play with children and other dogs. It was a good place to grow up. I had an old yellow lab and an old boston terrier to play with me. We were best friends and had a very happy life together for a while. The old lab had very bad arthritis and it was hard for her to walk around so she laid down all the time and let me jump on her and lick her. The boston terrier had bad mange and sores all over. There was some disease in his eyes too and he looked like he was sick all the time. I was in good shape, even though these humans never took us to the vet and we got to eat a lot every day and play with our children and the other kids that would come over too.
Then one day, the people said they were going away on vacation and threw us all outside in a very small pen. Someone was supposed to feed us and never came. We waited there in the bad heat during July. It rained and rained every day flooding this pen and the yellow lab had to lay in the deep water that covered most of her. The boston terrier drowned. Then some people came to check on us and didn't like what they saw. They bought us food and water and tarps for shelter, fence posts and fencing and tried to make the pen better so there wouldn't be much water in it anymore. They let us out every day too for a run and put stuff on our ears that were chewed up by the flies until my people came back.
When my people came back home, they didn't let us back in the house. It rained a lot again and the pen got water in it all over again. They made us stay in the pen with water that was deep and it was very hard on the lab. They let us out every day for a while, but then, we had to go back to the pen most of the time or just be loose. They gave us food, but the ants kept getting in the dish. Then the old lab died.
That's when they set me free and told me to leave. But I didn't go far. I stayed on the front porch every day waiting for them to come home. Sometimes I would roam the neighborhood looking for someone to play with and then I would go back to the porch. But they still never would let me back in. I don't know why. I wanted to come inside. I was hot, and then I was cold. But they said for me to just go away. But I didn't leave. That was my home. I didn't know why they were throwing me away.
One day the man put me in the truck and took me far away to some people in the mountains. They didn't have me long and made the man come back and get me. Then he gave me away again to some other people in another town. There was drugs and loud music there and it was always loud. I didn't like it, so I left and decided to find my way back home. It took some time for me to travel from town to town, but I made it. But when I got back, they were gone and the house was empty. I still hang around that neighborhood waiting but everyone keeps telling me to go away. I don't understand that because that is the only home I know where my people used to be.
I decided to go look for them all around town and I can't find them. I"ve been looking for 3 years and I still can't find where they went so I live on the streets and in the woods and sometimes back in the old neighborhood.
Tonite I went shopping. I thought I would hang out in the parking lot of the grocery store. Maybe someone would get me some food. I wanted some handouts. I am very skinny now. My ribs are showing and my ear is torn up. No one was giving me any food though. I'm scared and had my tail tucked between my legs and was cowering over by the dumpster. Then all of a sudden I saw a familiar truck that I used to know. I used to pee on those tires. It sometimes came to my old house. The people in the truck knew my name and called me. I haven't heard anyone call my name in all the years that I've been out on the streets. I started to go to them wagging my tail and all excited. I knew one of them, but he was so much taller than he used to be. He used to come and play with my children. Then for some reason, I got scared and started to back away. They got some dog biscuits out of their cart to try and coax me. But I just couldn't do it. They put them on the ground and backed off so I could get them. I think they were wanting to catch me. Then I ran. I don't know why I did that. I think they were going to help me somehow. It looked like they were trying to put me in their truck.
I heard them saying that they couldn't bring me to their house because their dogs would hurt me but they were going to take me someplace else. They said they would make some calls to try and get me a home. But I didn't wait. I ran and hid. I wish I didn't now because it's cold out. Maybe they will come back and try to find me tomorrow. I hope so. I wish I had a home.
The story you have just read is true.
If you know anyone that will give CJ a home, please let me know.
We're going back to find him and I can't keep him here for his own protection.
